For posting a video introducing the uninitiated to game theory, well done, Duk.
...but for posting a cherry-picked game theory video that tries to bend the discipline towards a certain 'puppies & rainbows' political mindset, not so much.

The most pandering line is when that guy questions the aptness of the name 'game theory' because it deals with 'life or death' issues.
No, game theory atomistically breaks apart and simplifies interactions in order to analyze them both independently and in correlation with certain others. Even the most complex game theories par eonly artificially simplied abstractions of tha t'life or death' thing called reality.

The video also spends most of it's time talking about 'zero-sum' Prisoner's Dilemma models, and then with some sleight of hand. uses that as evidence to argue for non-zero-sum scenarios... with the usual virtuous-sounding 'cooperation over competition' subtext/schtick.

A few other points the video fails (purposefully?) to not illucidate.
• Defection in the last round only matters if the game is zero-sum!
• Past earnings (of points or money) aleady stockpiled, will also quickly destroy any motivation to continue if the game is zero-sum... Unless some form of wealth redistribution is implemented.
• The same goes for situations where the point/money reward is not equal between various players. It doesn't get more real-world than that.
• Of course, zero-sum games are a bad fits for economic models where any money earned is a proportional win. That's how they get everybody to settle into the hierachy.
• As for applying it to a Thermonuclear Mexican Stand-off situation... that sounds more like zero-zero, than zero-sum... and in any case, not really repeatable, certainly not 200+/- X times. No, actually one-time End of the World' stakes betwewen closely matched players/opponents will probably require some hail mary Pass luck and little reliance on play behavior during previous rounds.

...and of course

• While the assumption of the same underlying values deciding the game-win conditions is a given in games and game theory, it is much, much less so, in actual reality.

I could go on... and on...

How about deciding the game is both no fun and hopelessly rigged. ...then hurling the board and pieces across the room is the closest you'll ever get to a 'rational outcome'.
That's called 'thinking outside the gamebox' Game Theory.

Sorry but I have a really hard time reading attempted expert analysis of game theory from a Sergeant 1st Class. Get your score up to 2k and I'll come back and finish reading this and we can talk.

(disclaimer, i didn't watch the video either)
