Laptop help

Postby Titanic on Thu Sep 20, 2007 10:49 am

Hey, for anyone who know some stuff about computer, can you help me with this. Found two good laptops, buts need to decide between them.

First one is a Sony Vaio. Slightly cheaper and better specs, but heavier. Also, it only has a 128mb graphics card, and the site and telephone people dont know the battry life for it.

Second one, a Fujitsu Siemans Lifebook. Slight more expensive, with good specs, just not matching upto the Vaios, but it much lighter, and has 224mb graphics card and a 6.5hr battery life.

Atm, I'm leaning towards the Vaio, but I will probably replace the graphics card because its just not good enough, but the fact its almost 4kg, and I'm going to be carrying it around a bit is off putting. Btw, I'm going to use it at uni, mainly for work, but also heavily for games and web stuff(like CC :D)

Your opinions please

games and vista don't go together. I'd also advise you take a look at some others, such as this evesham model.

Some good money saving techniques you can use to max your performance vs cost are to make sure you don't buy RAM from the computer sites, and don't buy office software packages (OpenOffice FTW!)

Those ones are Vista...crap...I thought they were XP Pro...Funny thing, the one you showed was Vista as well. I'm not too bothered about it being Vista, Ill only be playing games for about 1 hour a day, or 2 at the weekend.

I'm trying to get as little software as possible as I can get loads of software for free. How much is RAM in shops. I wanna get at least 1GB really. Btw, thanks for that site adi, its better then the one I was looking at.

Yeah, I got my laptop from evesham, cost a fair bit (maybe 900 quid for everything) but it's a real powerhouse, and i think you can change it to xp if you want to.

As for RAM, I reocmmend looking at the howto: http://www.ehow.com/how_8233_buy-ram.html

if you want to know things that the company won't tell you such as battery life, go to review sites/forums like http://www.cnet.com where you can just ask people who bought the product what they think of it.
