RedRover's Oregon Trail

The day is May 6th, 1844. You are in Independence, Missouri. You want a better life for you and your family and have heard of dreams coming true out west. After talking with a few people around town, you learn that there is a trail that will lead you to a better life, The trail to Oregon. The journey will be long and dangerous but you are willing to undergo the challenge.

This is the course you have plotted: Independence, Missouri; Ft. Kearny, Nebraska; Chimney Rock, Nebraska; Independence Rock, Nebraska; South Pass, Wyoming; Ft. Bridger, Wyoming; Soda Springs, Idaho; Ft. Hall, Idaho; Ft. Boise, Idaho; The Blue Mountains, Oregon; Ft. Walla Walla, Washington; The Dalles, Oregon; and finally Oregon City, Oregon.

You gather a few other party members and you are ready to set out on the trail.

All games will be standard, automatic, chained settings. The amount of players per game, the map, spoils and fog vary throughout the tournament. Please read in the "Itinerary" section for more details. The tournament will operate on a point system. Please look below in the "How to Win" section for a breakdown on how points can be earned.

How to Win

After each round you will be given points based on how you did at that location. The points will be awarded as follows:

    1st - 15 Points
    2nd - 12 points
    3rd - 10 points
    4th - 8 points
    5th - 6 points
    6th - 4 points
    7th - 2 points
    8th - 0 points

Your score will be updated after each destination of the trip and the player with the most points at the end of the trip will be declared the winner.

How you can be Eliminated

You can be eliminated but not having enough points at each wagon check. There will be three wagon checks throughout the trip. They will occur after Independence Rock, Ft. Hall and The Dalles.

To continue from Independence Rock, you will need 24 points

To continue from Ft. Hall, you will need 48 points

To continue from The Dalles, you will need 72 points

Lost on the Trail?

Did you just find a shortcut or have you managed to get us even more lost? Lost on the trail games will be the only opportunity outside of the destinations to try to get that extra lead or to try to catch up to the point leader. This is how a Lost on the trail game will work. The game will be:
    Map: USA Rockies / Midgard
    # of Players: 4 (subject to change)
    Fog
    No Spoils
The winner of the Lost on the trail game will gain 6 points.

Suffering from Fatigue?

If you happen to be down on your luck and generally not performing well on the trail there will be three opportunities for you to get back on the right track. The round before each wagon check will be an additional game between the two players who are last in points in their wagon party. The game will be:
    Map: 8 thoughts
    # of players: Varies
    Fog
    Escalating
The winner will be granted immunity from the wagon check and will automatically be able to pass regardless of points.

Additional Information

  • Maps for each location were chosen on a "best fit" principle
[-]Poker Club was used for the Soda Springs destination because poker was probably a common game played along the way
[-]Baseball was used for The Dalles destination because The Dalles today has produced three major league baseball players
  • Spoils are not random. Spoils occur after each fort. Forts were commonly trading posts and would have given wagon parties an extra boost of supplies so that translates to extra boost of reinforcements.
[-]Escalating spoils are used only once in The Blue Mountains because the Blue Mountains destination follows two forts.
  • 8 thoughts is used for the "Suffering from Fatigue" game so that players can get their mind straight so that they can continue on the trail
  • Midgard is a fictional location. What better for a "Lost on the Trail" game?

Any questions, comments or concerns with this tournament please post them here or PM me. I hope you enjoy the tournament. It should be great fun to play. Any updates or changes to this tournament will be updated on this page and PM'd to all registered players.
