Thank you for your airport selection.

In the future, please respond to the private message that I sent; please do not post on the tournament page, because I do not want other airlines to try and intentionally avoid certain airlines; this would give these airlines an unfair advantage. I would like to have an established "fog of war", in that each player only knows which routes the airlines already have, rather than which they plan to extend to in the round.

Therefore (this goes for all players) in the next round, please just respond by hitting SendReply above the message.

Good luck in the tournament!

James

Only one other CEO chose NYC too, so not too bad! :D
And no one chose Montreal! Almost everyone from London went to Luxembourg!

Istanbul from Hong Kong was a hotspot too!

It is surprising to me, everyone is playing, and nobody won the psychological battle of choosing the city nobody else chose.

Round 1 (Autumn 2012) games have been created. The standings and list of games have been updated. They will not be updated again until all games in Round 1 have finished.

In case you were wondering, yes there could potentially be a lot of games as the number of routes you own increases. As such, the general rule I'm making is that I won't send you more than 10 invites at a time; I intend to break the rounds up into smaller chunks, and send the invites 4 to 7 days apart, so that you won't be loaded down with an extreme amount of games, thus hindering your performance and risking the chance of a crash. :? But this first round there's hardly any games so I sent them all together.

Well, good luck in your first round! Should be smooth sailing, financially, for a while, so enjoy it

Message asking for Round 2 action has been sent to all CEOs.

Please send me your action in a personal message. Do NOT post it on the tournament page.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

It shall be interesting to see what Round 2 brings. Which CEOs and their tactful decisions will differentiate them and lead them to success?

October 30 Update

Image

Let's check out some of the highlights in our world of airlines,

Oceanic Rivalry

Cleansweep 11 and Phooey Air, with hubs in Istanbul, have been the only airlines expanding south. Both airlines, who saw marginal losses in the autumn season, are the only carriers offering service to Sydney through Cairns.

Bridging East and West

Numerous lines are en route to merging Europe with Asia; Freiflug Airline (Guderian09), which dominated first round play and experienced nearly a 10% increase in capital, in addition to Gilligan's Island in the Sky and IASHA, now offer service between culturally exotic Istanbul and the banking center of Luxembourg.

Showcasing Top-Quality Fleets

CEOs of BuccanAIR and Bearshark Air are looking to the future in renewing their fleet of airlines. The move, agreed upon by the respective boards of directors, is intended to ensure low, $0.50/route expense for the upcoming spring season (Round 3).

Good luck to all airlines in Round 2 (Winter 2012)! :D

Notices
  • You might realize that you have received quite a few invites. I am also aware of this, so beginning with Round 3 (and continuing for the remainder of the tournament), I will break the invites into blocks, so that not all invites are received at once. This will alleviate the stress in being bogged down by a bunch of games.
  • To be clear, airlines may own more than 1 route (they may own all 14 after 14 rounds if they choose)! You continue to own routes that you have bought for the entire tournament, unless you choose to sell them.

:( Must be sabotage from inside the company!

Be it known, of course, I have no control on outcome/drop/dice on any games.

Yeah, I was thinking about this. Once you get a few routes happening the number of games could get huge. Could we have a maximum of five at a time, and preferably no more than 2 batches a week, split up as 5 on the weekend and 5 mid-week?

The invites will definitely be spaced out beginning next round.

While all the details aren't set in stone, I've got the basic idea. Since game invites are sent in pairs of 2 (since you play each opponent on both departing AND arriving airport), I'll send invites in either groups of 4, or 6, based on whichever is most convenient/applicable to the spread of players across the routes.

While I can't update tourneys every day (as I used to be able to do in the summer  ), I'll do my best to, yes, space out the invites every three to four days, allowing for 8-12 invites being sent per week (and then breaks of course at the end of rounds).

Keep in mind that route expansion may slow down as maintenance increases and airlines lose money/go bankrupt.

The data for all the airlines has been updated; Round 2 has ended. Below are the links that will direct you to results of your games, how much you and your competitors earned on each route, your profits, etc.

*Let it be known that I made an elementary accounting error in Round 1 by entering the $2 paid for establishing a route not only as a credit to cash when it was purchased but ALSO as an expense at the end of the round. In other words, I charged each airline an extra $2.

As a result, I have rightfully given each airline $2! My mistake.  (and 2 laughs for me.)

I will follow up in a few days with a message requesting your airline's Round 3 action.

Unfortunately, airlines may only establish 1 route per round.

Establish 1 new flight route.

OR

Upgrade your fleet of aircraft.

December 8 Update

Image

Another round, another look at our competitive aviation realm,

A New Look: Minimaps

Rather than devour words and route names, the new continental, focused mini-maps place airline logos along each route, and airplanes along longer routes with more space on the map. Routes will come alive as you will more easily be able to see who is flying where, and how best to expand. Check them out below!

show: North America

show: Europe

show: Asia

show: World Map

Minimaps are always updated at the start of each round, and can always be found here:
Maps and List of Games and Individual Route Standings (click here)

West and Orient Flyby

For the first time, pilots aboard Fleiflug, Phooey, and Serreskies, all based in Hong Kong, can make radio transmission with a GimGimno crew from Chicago. These airlines together now compete for the suddenly hot Hong Kong-Vancouver market. Just last winter, the route was dead, but spring has these four major carriers flying the Pacific.

Freiflug Leads ( :-s ) the Way

Atop the standings is Guderian09's Freiflug "Free-Flight" Airlines, which saw the greatest profits in the winter season, bringing home $6, a 25% increase in capital. The airline, like many others, is traversing the popular Euro-Asiatic corridor between London and Hong Kong. Time will tell whether Freiflug can continue or if the steep competition will halt its growth.

Good luck to all airlines in Round 3! (Spring 2013) :D

I have sent the vast majority of players 6 invites in this first block of invites (as promised). Due to the spread of airlines, some airlines received only 2 or 5 invites, but they will then receive a larger amount for the second block.

The next set of games should be sent out in four days (Wednesday). Players will receive either a maximum of 4 invites (if they received six now), or 6 invites (if they received fewer than six now).

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
James

Further invites have been sent. Each player has received up to four invites.

The next batch of invites will be sent four days from today (Sunday). Again, players will receive up to four invites.

I have sent further invites, of up to four invites to each player, for those players who still have games remaining.

These will be the last invites before Christmas holiday; invites will continue around New Year's.

Additional invites have been sent. However, not every player received invites since I needed to make sure I kept all players at 4 or 5 games.

There's only 14 more games left in this round, so the invites for those games will go out on New Year's Day.

Hope everyone had good holidays!

The data for all the airlines has been updated; Round 3 has ended (but for one game that is nearly over, but we've got to get on to Round 4). Below are the links that will direct you to results of your games, how much you and your competitors earned on each route, your profits, etc.

I've sent the request for Round 4 action.

Amendment Failed--Original Rules Stand

As you recall, there was a proposal made to reduce the number of routes and revenue required to win.

The change would be approved only with 75% approval from the CEOs. Here are the results,

  • 8 CEOs YES (in favor)
  • 4 CEOs NO (against)
  • 6 CEOS abstain

14 CEOs would have been required to vote YES for the change to take place. As a result, as of Round 4, no Rule changes have been made.

Game 12308150

Whoever else was supposed to be in this game didn't accept. Haven't seen any other invites for days. Should I drop?
