Lost out to Domicas in a epic first round battle... I think the boy will go far.... but have used up some of his favourite maps for those left in. ;)

Well, nine rotations of play definitely means you gave him a run for his money.

Chewie1, our 2011 champion, has fallen to the flames like so many others now. The perhaps overlooked favorite of the tournament series, Domicas, remains alive! Domicas has, after all, made it to the Final Four in each of the two previous PIG Roasts, and is now well on his way after making it through to the Sizzling Sixteen. 8-)

It will definitely be the case that those players with the Gold Cross-map medals will have the clear edge, as map selections narrow.

Opening Stage Complete!

We began with sixteen unique and "inflamed" (if you will) grilling and roasting environments of 4 piggies apiece, and after as few as 3 rotations to as many as 9, the fire and smoke have cleared, but only just. The sixteen players moving on for further roasting have been determined and are enjoying this brief cooling respite, but before you know it, they'll be back at it in our next phase:

The Sizzling Sixteen!

Now that we're moving on to the Sizzling Sixteen, let's take a look ahead at some of the favored competitors,

  • Charging ahead the pack, and quite clearly, is TheCrown, the only player in this year's competition to remain undefeated and win 9 games across three rotations as Roaster, allowing him to quickly roast all 3 other piggies and move on as #1 seed in style!

  • Perhaps the not-so-obvious strong contenders for the Fiery Four finals are Evil Semp and Cheesydave. Both found themselves in Pot 3 (among the low ranks) at the start, but quickly dominated play against the favored Initial Roaster as well as the #2-favored. Both have used relatively few maps, benefiting from upsetting the Roaster on his choice map! They certainly have momentum on their side.

  • Seasoned (quite the pun  ) veterans Domicas and Gromph stand alone in their history of competitiveness in the Roast; both have, in 2011 or 2010, advanced from the opening round and made their mark in the batch of 16. Domicas is the only player among all 16 that has before even landed in the Fiery Four finals.

Regardless, we know that only 4 of 16 can move through this second round, and it's now time to see how randomness will divide the piggies among their grills of hell!

According to the Rules, I shall divide the players into Pots, as follows,

So, our pots are,

I now create four groups of random players, such that there is a player from Pot A, B, C, and D in each group.

Well, there you have it folks. Which group is strongest, do you feel? Does any one initial Roaster have it "easy?" Feel free to comment! I say Group B looks especially tough.

I am now sending the messages to the Initial Roasters, and play shall then begin!

Keep away from the flames
Good luck!

2 of the groups have advanced into Round 2 already. Very interesting turn of events, looks like, in all 4 groups, the Roaster is being upset nearly half the time!

Our Sizzling Sixteen groups are now three or four rotations, and we've already seen two players fall into the flames!

Below is a summary of what we saw happen in the opening stage. Arms Race! topped the list of maps selected. As usual, while 25% of players began the tourney as initial Roasters, by the end of the opening Rotations two-thirds of players had their shot as Roaster as well. Also, it turned out in this edition, it meant less to be initial Roaster, as many players who began as piggies ended up claiming the roasting stick and earning their spot in the Sizzling Sixteen.
