With this post, Triple 6 is the 64th and final player to join the tournament.

I am sorry ltcomdata and BelgianVirus, but I have put you at the top of the Reserves list, meaning you will become the first players I will call upon if players don't show up for games in the opening round of the tournament.

Thank you for your interest in the tournament.

This tournament is now full. I am awaiting privileges from the Directors to make games; once those arrive the 2012 Roast shall commence!

Greetings fellow competitors of WC4J's third-annual PIG Roast,

You have taken upon yourselves the challenge of surviving the torrid world of the grill. In this king-of-the-hill style tournament, only one player per group can enjoy the luxury of being Roaster, casually observing the other "piggies" engulfed in the flames, preparing them for a sumptuous holiday meal. Each piggy, meanwhile, struggles to escape and gain possession of the roasting stick themselves!

We're all set to kick off the Pig Roast for the 2012 Holiday seasons!

The 64 players have been broken into 16 groups of 4 players each, based on their score as shown:
show: Opening Stage Pots

The 16 groups each have a player from Pot 1 (who will be the first Roaster), Pot 2, Pot 3, and Pot 4. This is designed so all groups are approximately even based on score.

Method of Randomization
show: Method of Randomization

show: Pot 1 Randomization

show: Pot 2 Randomization

show: Pot 3 Randomization

show: Pot 4 Randomization

Here's the data shown visually in the standings boards,

The basic rules to serve as a reminder:

In your group of 4, one player begins as the "Roaster." He selects a map and the settings (he may only choose a map once) and the other 3 players must play against him in a 1v1 game. The piggy that defeats the Roaster in the fewest number of rounds escapes the grill, so to speak, and becomes Roaster. Should the Roaster not lose, he just keeps roasting

Scoring will follow these rules,

Scoring

If a "piggy" loses, then a letter is added to the standings board next to his name. The first letter is a "P", the second is an "I", and the last is a "G" (thus you are a roasted PIG and eliminated after 3 letters).

If a "piggy" wins, then he does NOT get a letter.

The Roaster cannot "get a letter" unless ALL piggies still alive in the group win in their 1v1 games against him; if this occurs, the Roaster gets ONE letter. This applies regardless how many piggies are left in the group, even if there is only 1 piggy left.

A letter is REMOVED from next to the Roaster's name if he defeats ALL piggies still alive in the group in the 1v1 games. BUT, if this occurs when the Roaster does not have a letter, than NO letter is removed.

Once any player has three letters and the word PIG spelled next to his name, that player is eliminated. Clarification is provided with an example below.

Regarding the Roaster
It is good to be the Roaster, as you can select the map you play on, and the scoring system is geared in favor of the Roaster, as every player he defeats directly gets a letter. However, the Roaster can always be shocked and get a letter himself if each piggy defeats him!

Also, note that the Roaster is not a permanent position: the roasting stick is intended to change hands numerous times as players defeat the Roaster.

I highly highly suggest you keep this message as it contains links to tournament details to keep you in the loop on the action.

Games will be sent out shortly.

Fight for your life. The fire's hot, ya know...

Good luck,
James

As this may become an issue and I have not addressed this in the Rules as of yet:

Round Limits will be considered to be a setting that Roasters may choose.

This means that Roasters may choose to have a 20 Rounds Limit in their games, for instance.

I have also slightly reworded the following, so it is in accordance with the fact that Roasters can choose a Rounds limit:

Games that are created with the Trench Warfare setting will also be created with a 30 Rounds Round Limit to avoid stalling stalemates.

NEW:

Games that are created with the Trench Warfare setting will also be created with either a 30 Rounds Round Limit, or a 20 Rounds Round Limit if selected by the Roaster, to avoid stalling stalemates.

What has now been added to the Rules as clarification:

Roasters may select a Rounds Limit if they wish; in other words, Rounds Limit is considered a setting.

Standings and the log of games have been updated.

First update of the tournament! About half of our groups have moved into their second rotation!

Fellow piggies (I too am one in Group J ;) ), keep in mind you can afford two losses, and once you become the Roaster yourself, you'll have the chance to begin a long string of victories yourself, on your choice map and settings! Don't lose hope if you lost in the first round!

Standings and the log of games have been updated.

Let's look at the progression of our groups thus far,

1 division in Rotation 3.
14 divisions in Rotation 2.
1 division in Rotation 1.

Interestingly, WWII Poland has been the most widely-selected map among the Roasters! (selected 4 times so far.)

Cursed by the Tryptophan :o

Why hello again, fellow Roasters and piggies alike!

If you celebrated Thanksgiving or any form of Thanksgiving (Erntedankfest as they call it in German), I hope your festivities went well.

I must say the Tryptophan of the turkey, the sweet potato casserole, and the mushy mashed potatoes got the better of me, knocking me into a deep sleep, accounting for the lack of updates for the past five days!

While I did not myself have a roasted PIG (breaking the very premise of this tourney  ), if you in fact happened to devour a pig, kudos there! And, there's always the winter holidays that will soon roll around. ;)

I've finished a full update and more games should be out shortly!

Standings and the log of games have been updated.

I hope everyone had a warm holiday season! And we have New Year's coming up so still one big moment to tackle before 2013.

I didn't have the privilege to eat a roasted pig, though I did eat something very similar--German Schnitzel, breaded and fried pork chops with lemon. Exceptional dish!

Anyway, numerous groups finished play over the break we have had, and I've updated everything. Still some groups battling it out as the new year approaches.

I failed to defend my title :(

Lost out to Domicas in a epic first round battle... I think the boy will go far.... but have used up some of his favourite maps for those left in. ;)
