Electronic Sports League and Conquer Club???

So anyway.. I am the Tournament Director for the National ESL (http://www.nationalesl.com) and I have been playing CC for some time. I even made a map..but its been put on hold for a bit. The reason that I am posting now.. is to find out how (if at all) that I am able to partner National ESL with CC or at least use the National ESL backend (tournaments, leagues and such) to run CC events.

Basically, I would love to run a full 'League' of 4 Tiers (Premier, Select, Main and Open)..
Everything would be done the same on the CC site.. I would just be hosting the events, providing content and using our backend system to show standings and create schedules for the event.

Is this something that can be done?

I can not see why not.. but I wanted to check first. We would find a group of admins that would admin the matches, create content (news articles, interviews with players, so on) and all of this would be promoting CC!

We can provide 2v2 ladders, 3v3 ladders, special cups, leagues, so on for CC.

This community is solid and there is a lot of action going on and I love playing the game.. but would love to see it grow even more and I would love to create an 'esports' environment for it.

Any thoughts?

Basically qwert.. its a gaming website.. that I am the Tournament Director for.. and we want to run CC tournaments from it.

Its basically the same things as you running your tournaments..but having a huge website with world wide huge numbers visiting the site daily to see the results of the tournaments.. allowing users to play on a 'LADDER'.. where their records are stored or putting up a 16 to 256 person bracket and being able to have all of the bracket stuff automated.

As it appears doing this is not breaking any CC rules.. I will be announcing support for CC on our site (www.nationalesl.com) and setting up a small 16 person single elimination tournament. I will leave details here.

We will be looking to get real cash prizes for the winners!

Thanks,

I need to spend some time looking into this and chatting with you and probably an admin about it. I'm interested in learning more about the specifics of what you're planning.

Only thing not all tournaments are bracket style,
but it would sure help TPA and more tournaments would
be counted towards TPA ladder.

agree totally benga.. and in fact.. I ran an event for CC not too long ago that was much different then I had seen ran before here.. I prefer group play and league play to 'brackets'... .but there are some advantages to brackets.. especially if you can have people show up and do a complete tournament (5 minute round games) on small maps in a single night.

One of the suggestions that I have had for CC would be custom matches for 'Tournament Admins' that allowed a 'time limit' to be set for the entire match.. with the winner being declared statistically using the stats of the map. This way .. you could run tournaments in which you knew that a map would finish in 'X' amount of time.

I am all about talking with you any time.. just let me know.

Here is link to the last event that I ran for CC: http://www.ufreeze.net/ccworldcup1.htm

Let me know and we can connect.. i really wanna get this started.. it could bring a new level of competition to CC.

So ... lets say that National ESL ran a 16 person Single Elimination Speed Bracket Tournament.. would there be interest?

We could start with 8 to test it all... make sure everyone understands the site.. so on. Players submit their results and are automatically moved to next round once the loser confirms the match score.

The one issue I see with this.. is the time per round.

Lets say we chose Classic as a map for a round.. in a SPEED game.. what do we feel the average time it would take to complete the map and declare a winner? (Still wish there was an option for 'Timed Games!" where players set up the map to end at a specific time .. ie 30 minutes)

speed tournaments are very hard to run because you have to be on at the same time as everyone else

tournaments have been run before with timed games. i think they were soccer themed tournaments where if the game wasn't finished in x number of turns it was considered a draw (a common result in the real game)

The thing with our system though..is that you sign up for the site.. and JOIN the tournament.. then at the time of the tournament.. you CHECK IN.. this ensures the admins (myself) that you are there. We then add the 16 players that are CHECKED IN. More then 16 can join the event..but only those that have CHECKED IN.. will be added to the bracket.

We need to look at this like any other online (esports) event in which the players that sign up are expected to be on during their match time.

I think it would be worth a shot to run an 8 person single elimination bracket.

One way to put a time limit on a speed game is to limit the number of rounds.

So.. lets say we put the limit to 9 rounds (=90 minutes total maximum of play time).
Then run 1 round per night.
You would determine the winner of the match after 9 rounds based on a mathematical algorithm.
For example: Player A has 15 territories + 56 total Troops + 12 Bonus Troops = 83 points
Player B has 13 territories + 67 total Troops + 9 Bonus Troops = 89 points

Player B wins the match.
This will force players to play aggressive but also smart. A player can not just go for territories or look to 'hoard' the most troops. My guess is that most matches (maps) would be completed in about 6-7 rounds. If players move quickly and don't use the entire 5 minutes (ie. average of 3 min per turn per player) = 36 to 42 minutes per map (match)

This would allow the admins to actually run 2 rounds per night and have the tournament (bracket finished) in 2 nights.

Look at this as no different then an online tournament for QuakeLive, Call of Duty, SC2 and so on.

90 minutes would fit very very with a soccer theme - have you mentioned this to dj teflon?
