Interview with Godd
This week we had the chance to talk with organizer and player, Godd. All questions are reader submitted, so if you have something you want to ask an upcoming organizer; PM me. Next week’s interview will be with White Moose. If you have not submitted your questions, you have until Tuesday to either PM me, or post in this thread.
In two weeks, our interview will be with dittoeevee8888. Feel free to begin submitting your questions now, I have created this thread for that purpose.
Now, on with the interview.
Q: Hello, Godd.
A: Hell Of a Godd?
Q:How did you find this website?
A: I was on the other riskattack site for a year or so and someone kept making a game called http://www.conquerclub.com so finally I checked it out once.
Q: Why did you join CC?
A: The other site was so slow and so many multi's it was hard to enjoy.
Q:Why did you start to play tournaments?
A: Always wanted to play in tournaments so I joined them for I was better then most here in my area playing on the board game.
Q:What made you want to start running tournaments?
A: After I started to win some tourneys I wanted to run some of my own. In a way it was better than some of the others.
Q: How long have you been organizing tournaments?
A: For a year or so ??
Q:What tournament did you first run?
A: That would be the "You're Eliminated" tourneys
Q: Where did you come up with your tournament ideas?
A: Started out similar to Point Grabbers but then progressed into a few others that had more action in them.
Q: Describe the experience of your first tournament ran, and first played in.
A: First one I was in I did really good ending in the finals, The second one I joined ended before the first and I won that one, As for the first one I ran myself it went flawless.
Q: What is your favorite tournament you’ve played in?
A: Well that goes without saying for it was my first won Point Grabbers but a close second would be amazzony's Fantastic 4 series.
Q: Is there a specific type of format that you tend to gravitate towards? Why? Is there a format that is your favourite?
A: Well for playing in it would be 1-vs-1, 2 out of 3 for I am at my best there. Other than that it would be 8 player escalating games.
Q: Do you find it easier to choose tournament settings yourself, or to let the players customize them?
A: I find it easier to have myself set in larger ones but in smaller ones let the players set them.
Q: Overall, are you playing a lot in tournaments? If not, then why and where do you find your games to play?
A: Mostly right now it is tourneys but I have had upwards of 100 games going at a time where I was about 50/50 with open games and tourneys.
Q: How excited where you with your first CC win?
A: It was my 8th game here for at first I though this was a site for sissy type of players but soon found out I was wrong there.
Q: What is your most disappointing tournament loss to date?
A: There was one of Gilligan’s tourneys that I had in the bag, but due to not thinking in one of the final games I gave it away.
Q: In your mind, what makes a successful tournament?
A: Flawless without player complaints, and where they want the next one to start right away.
Q: What do you consider to be the most successful tournaments you've seen run?
A: Point Grabbers, Fantastic 4, just to name a couple.
Q: How do you attract players to your tournament, and what aspect (besides a reward of a premium prize or something like that) of a tournament do you think appeals to a lot of players and why?
A: Short and fast tourneys for some of the players then a variety of game types for other players that want more in-depth style of play.
Q: Is there anything in particular that you dislike about tournament organizing?
A: Player complaints about other players’ play style
Q: For you, what is the best part of being a tournament organizer?
A: The involvement in making this site even better than it was before I was here, and then there are all the new friends you meet.
Q: What mistakes do you see tournament organizers make the most?
A: I don't look for them, for each his own, and in the long run it will all even out.
Q: With experience comes the wisdom of knowing what mistakes you've made in the past so you can avoid them in the future. What mistakes have you made in your tournaments that you are sure to avoid in future tournaments?
A: For some of them I have found you need a limit of rounds for one game could go on forever then the rest of the waiting players get bored with the waiting and move on to something else.
Q: Do you use a "schedule" for updating your tournaments, or do you just wait until they need an update?
A: I wait myself till there is something to update.
Q: If you could change one thing about Conquer Club in general, what would it be?
A: I would place a Neutral player option for TO's so when a player disappears you can insert a player to fill the spot.
Q: If there was something that the Conquer Club administrators could implement into the game to make tournaments easier to manage, what would it be? Similarly, is there anything you would like to see taken away from Conquer Club to make running tournaments easier?
A: Just as I answered above. A Neutral player that can be inserted in a game. This would eliminate the problem of placing a reserve player in the later stages of a tourney where the other players have worked so hard to get to.
Q: Is there anything that you would recommend to encourage new tournament organizers?
A: Plan it out and ask a TD/TO for any help ideas as well as read how the others are ran and planned.
Q: List your top 5 biggest tournament headache's to this point
A: Alliances, Missing players, 50+ round games, Players complaints about other players, and me not winning them.
Q:How much time does CC take from your day?
A: Take?? Should be gives to my day for I am on most of the time checking and waiting to take a turn about 10 times a day.
Q:Why did you join Generation One?
A: A great place for friends to talk and enjoy (just adds a bonus to the site).
Q: Why did you pick the name Godd?
A: Years ago playing RPG games I was in the dark, and I am one that can't type without looking at the keys. In the dark I had typed in my name and hit enter without looking to see what I had typed and misspelled my name to where I ended up liking the name so it has followed me ever since.
Q:What is your favourite beer, if any?
A: Coors Light but I only drink a little in the heat of the summer.
Q:Favourite play colour?
A: The bolder colors so I can see my armies better.
Q:Favourite and least favourite map?
A: Waterloo without question.
Q: Any tournaments planned for the future? What are they?
A: Great things coming this fall for I will be slowing down some for the summer (maybe)
Q: Thank you for your time.
A: Good Luck Everyone

Map Foundry Gone Wild!
The Map Foundry has been running hot lately! Maps are coming out faster than a rabbit on crack! There have been all kinds of maps coming out, from Treasures of Galapagos to Iceland to Egypt: Upper.
Did you by mistake miss a map? Well then, keep on reading and you might get enlightened!
The reason new maps has been coming out so fast lately is a change in work pace, done by Lackattack, the site owner, who changed from large updates with lots of maps at once to small updates with one at the time. This change has become a great success, all players who has been longing for map for weeks, maybe months
will not have to wait longer than a few days now! But really, what new maps have come? Let's have a look.
Iceland
The first map of this new map frenzy is Iceland. A map of the country of Iceland, by RjBeals.
All the 36 territories are named exactly as they are in the Icelandic language. Which has been reported to be annoying for some, but entertaining and educating by others. It's sure to become a favorite map for many ConquerClub players.
This map came in use for a couple of tournaments just a day or two after it came out.
It's been chosen as the final's for the "Final Point Grabbers" by Optimus Prime, and in "Foundary Update 4.0" by Natewolfman.
High Seas
Water covers 2/3's of the Worlds area, so here is a map where you fight at sea. This 16th
century inspired map was made by Oaktown. Oaktown really took in the 16th century in the map and you really get the vibe that this is how the world looked like in a time of World Sailing.
The pictures which catches your eyes around the map is early 16th century engravings by Albrecht Durer, a German painter who's watercolour paintings mark him as one of the first European landscape artists.
High Seas is a classic gameplay map, with no gimmicks or tricky rules. Which makes it great for anyone to play.
Egypt: Lower
A map inspired by Ancient Egypt, made by the huge map maker cairnswk, who has a total of 18 (!) maps quenched!
As you look at the map, what catches your eye is the Sphinx. A Sphinx is a mythological figure, which is depicted as a lion with a human head. The river that catches your eye is the River Nile, which the Egyptians were very dependent upon to survive in ancient Egypt. The map is quite normal gameplay, but with a little twist. The Egyptian Cities gives a 1 army
autodeploy each round. This gives the map unique tactics and tricks to use. The map has quickly become a hit to speed gamers, as cairnswk forsaw before the map even got out to play.
Those who like the map, and other maps in the Egypt Series should check out the tournament "A Trip up the Nile".
Sydney Metro
Another map made by cairnswk. Map made from the City of Sydney and it's public transportation, as in buses and ferries. The map has a lot of small countries with big bonuses, but with all the different connections between the territories it makes it difficult to hold them. The different territory names are as they are called in Sydney, which actually gives you some fun facts about the city of Sydney. Also, the famous Opera House got a picture in the maps legend.
Treasures of Galapagos
Yet another map by cairnswk. The map comes from the Island of Galapagos, which is located east of Ecuador in South America.
You start off in a Diving Reef. The key to the map is capturing Luggers, Fresh Water and Treasures, all giving bonuses. The Lugger and Fresh Water gives you a bonus for each Diving Reef you own. So the more reefs, the more bonus per Lugger/Fresh Water you
receive.
The map has had a few problems. Many has complained about the map being unbalanced. However, the map has been changed and is under change as this is getting written. So a final edition with even balance perhaps isn't far away.
Egypt: Upper
Guess who made this map? Yes, you are correct. carinswk!
The map is quite similar to Egypt: Upper. It has the 1 army auto-deploy on the cities as well. However, it's very unique in one way.
The left side of the map sits atop the right side. It's a very clever way to make a long thin map work in the image size which is required for maps here on ConquerClub. The Nile is present in this map as well and also the boats which helps you travel across the
river.
