Version 6

I heard Kaplowitz etc and tried to achieve V3 colours lightened. but along the way discovered this colour configuration, so though It was good and would put it up for consideration.

It achieves the reed heart, Tieryn's albert Roo, and puts that green timge around the edge of the contintent to represent somewhat the non desert areas.

hey cairns, this looks great!
i much prefer the changes you made for version 7.

i only have one suggestion:
the color bars you use to represent the long distance lines in the legend are a great idea.
and while i know that space is very tight, is there any way you might be able to make them a *tiny* bit thicker?
it hurts the eyes a bit trying to distinguish them.
not a major problem, and if there isn't room, it's understandable.
otherwise, i agree that this should be moved to the foundry.

Just so you know, this and Rail Europe would be great to have finished soon. I'm using Rail USA in a tournament and I may use these in a couple sequels I have planned. Keep these up. (I personally like them better than some of the other more "complicated" ones.)

Thanks Night Strike....i can't push the foundry process for this map.
I'm working on rails for Rail Europe, and also making changes on this map to get it into the Foundry....so it may be sometime (at least another month or so) before these get quenched.

Why don't you wait until the whole series (Asia and South America) are completed (hopefully be the end of this year)?

Because the tournament just includes these, they aren't featured. They're trips through the various continents. The current one is Amazing Race: USA.

On topic, I'm kinda confused on the Long Distance Bonuses. Are those labeled by the attack lines that actually have railroads??

Understand :)

the long distance trains simply are extra bonuses on top of what you get if you hold the state based continents....this map is more like the traditional classic format.
the long distance trains...if you hold all the stations on those routes you get that bonus.
so for the overlander...you'd have to hold ADL+BDT+MEL...you'd get an extra (1) bonus.
mind you these bonuses are not yet finalised, but in gameplay, they could be used to gain extra to get the state bonus.

Ok then, 2 comments:

1. Did you mean to skip some stations along the way?? (i.e. Overlander has BDT in the middle, but it's not listed) Does that mean you don't have to own those stations?? Basically, it's vague.

2. I don't think they're represented very well at the moment. The key colors are much brighter than the actual lines, and it gets tedious to read through exactly which station is included in each bonus.

Version 8

Changed the legend long-distance lines to thicken and emphasize them.

Much prefer the 'sunburst' background in v8 - looks really good.

The latest long-distance legend finally clued me in on what you meant about these, so I think it works!

I've got the glasses on today, instead of my contacts, so I'm not seeing as well as I'd like. I'll wait a day or two to give the graphics a good eye-balling.

This is an interesting addition for this map....the lyrics to the song Indian-Pacific by Slim Dusty...

and the fantastic youTube clip!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJRCYWhAvxY

enjoy!

From coast to coast by night and day, hear the clickin' of the wheels
The hummin' of the diesel, of her ribbons of steel
Carryin' the memories of a nation built by hand
See the Indian Pacific span the land

She's the pride of all the railway men 'cross country where she flies
From blue Pacific waters to where the mountains rise
By lakes and wide brown rivers, through desert country dry
See the Indian Pacific passin' by

Oh the Indian Pacific she goes rollin' down the track
Five thousand miles to travel before she's there and back
Beside the line, a drover waves his battered old grey hat
And kids are catchin' yabbies down by the river flat
And a woman hangs her washing in a backyard near the line
As the Indian Pacific's rollin' by

Hear the whistle blowin' lonely 'neath the Nullabor star light
Saluting those who walk across the track she romps tonight
Callin' to the railway camp and the fitters on the line
I'm the Indian Pacific, right on time

From the silver of the Broken Hill to old Kalgoorlie gold
She mirrors all the colours of the land so hot and old
Then the western clouds are blooming and the air is just like wine
And the Indian Pacific's makin' time

Oh the Indian Pacific she goes rollin' down the track
Five thousand miles to travel before she's there and back
From the waters of the western sea to the eastern ocean sand
The Indian Pacific spans the land
Oh the Indian Pacific spans the land
