I would like to see the borders alot less intrusive so that the landscape really sticks out.

I can do that.

Everyone will start randomly on the large green areas (fertile land) on each side of the map.
The desert and all of the oases will start neutral.
You have to cross through the neutrals to take the Grand Oasis and win.

i agree with gimil about te borders. make them blend and let the beautiful graphics do the talking.

btw, are you using a graphic tablet with a pen, or just a simple mouse?
it seems like a pen to me

Actually, I would prefer to make the tutorial.
The PSD file is pretty much a mess (about 15 layers, everything is split up a lot), you probably wouldn't learn very much from it without a bunch of "what does ____ layer do?"
I was planning on making a tutorial for it anyway, and it would be able to explain everything really clearly.

Im using wacom tablet (one of the small versions). It helps a lot.
makes it pretty easy to draw in all the details and borders.

it shows. looks great.

about the borders. not sure if it will work but how about not drawing them at all? instead just make them embossed in the ground??

i wanted to do that on AoR but it doesn't work well with heavy textures. but you have light nice ones so it might fit well

I would go with:

-white boarders
-Bevel & Emboss
-and set the layer mode to multiply.

With gray borders, you'd get a dark overlay kinda thing over the border... tho maybe that's what you want. The thing I like about the using the fill opacity is that it's easy to adjust how dark you want the borders.
Besides, I'm layer-mode-phobic.

I want that tutorial!

I'm pretty sure it's on PS 7. I remember it being on 6.0.
These are layer modes:

the border lines are a bit sloppy, they either aren't long enough are cross the other lines. fix it up

Pay attention man!
I already mentioned that in the same post where I posted the image (and also on the first post).

Anyway, I am in the process of re-drawing all of the borders in the desert. the ones on the most recent update were pretty rushed, more to just show what it would be in the end. The next update will have them looking much better, as well as having all/most of the oases graphics finished.
The next update after that will hopefully include Territory names.

Before too long, we will have to decide if this map needs army circles or not. I think I am leaning more towards having no army circles, because the circles would cover up the visuals a lot. What do the rest of you think?

Army circles might work if you do them subtly, like gimil did in his Feudal War revamp.

Instead of just making holding the Grand Oasis an instant win, perhaps it should give you a massive amount of armies? It would cut down complaints that you're plagiarizing DiM.

This is the first time I've seen anyone complain that I might be copying DiM.
How am I plagiarizing DiM with this? This and AoR are completely different maps. AoR you hold one country for a single turn. here you hold 3.
Are you saying that every map that has a "hold X to win the game" objective will be plagiarizing DiM, just because he did it first?

Thats like saying "oh noes! u plagarized the classic map cause you have to take over the world to win!" to pretty much every other map on here. sounds kinda rediculous, don't you think?

Grand oasis for one turn=instant win. That is not changing.
Capture the treasure and win the game. Thats how this map works.

----note to all: expect the next update some time next week. I don't have much time to work on it on school days, and Prom is this weekend, so I'll be busy pretty much all of the weekend. I'll get little bits done here and there, and it will eventually be ready. just be patient

Where did you come up with plagiarizing?

plagiarize:
1. To use and pass off (the ideas or writings of another) as one's own.
2. To appropriate for use as one's own passages or ideas from (another).

I'm guessing when he used the word "plagiarize", he meant it in more of a "this is the exact same idea as DiM uses in his maps" kind of way. IDK

Considering that there's an XML script specifically for such a victory condition, I doubt that it could be considered plagiarizing. Although, if it is possible, when will the bidding start for ownership of the other functions?

lol, sorry to stray off topic, but if we can get trademarks and copyrights, i'd like to own the one for attacking 7v2 and ending up 2v2.

on a more serious note, it's most def not plagiarizing, because its a new and improved(questionable) way of playing risk!
