I like the idea of a revamp, but I think I like the original better than this. The territory border lines are too thick & I think the whole map is a little bit dark.
To me, the dead territory takes focus away from the actual map because it is such a dark colour. Also, maybe a bit distracting for me because there is no dead territory on the original.
Ive only just got into playing the middle east map and love it. Maybe I just need time to adjust to changes.
Another thing is I think the original is clearer. Easier to understand.

I think Israel and Palestinian Territories should be shorthened to just Israel.

Arguing about it is useless, I'm not going to change any place names from the original.

There was a huge debate when I first made the map about Israel-Palestine. First I called it Palestine as that is what the region is called, but people didn't like that. Then I called it Jerusalem after the name of the area under the Ottomans (The Independent Sanjak of Jerusalem) which also bugged people. Israel is too charged for me and Palestine for everone else so thus we stuck with both. And that's how it will stay :-)

Is someone still working to improve Middle East map?

since it seems it will take a long time before the new map will be finished, I make a proposal:
could you quench the original map with only the 4 corner correction of Egypt, please?

I consider pyramide suggestion a really good idea, as well the one to mark the borders using river Nilo and linking in some way the territories that have to be connected and leting the other ones divided...

Sometimes emit confused words;
Man crosses it through forests of symbols
That observe him with familiar glances."

I want to see a lighter version. Other than that, good job. Can't wait to play, might get in a few rounds on the old middle east map after christmas, to get ready.

I liked the fact that you added the names to the surrounding seas.
1 one good thing about maps other than the Classic - is that they can educate people about geography.

wrongs in middle east map

Postby serkancatal on Sat Jan 06, 2007 12:50 pm

there r some critical wrongs on the middle east map. so if u change i hope u can pay attention on those.
1- the place called armenia is van, a turkish city. armenia is a country and nothing to do with turkey
2- the place called caucasia is actually armenia. caucasia is a region including azerbeijan, armenia, georgia and so many others.
3- there is no place called kurdistan in the world. in the map place as ashown as kurdistan is actually musul-kerkuk. musul and kerkuk have their own people and it belongs to iraq. since iraq is divided to cities such as baghdad, than the place as shown as kurdistan has to be musul-kerkuk.
i hope u can pay attention on the things i told.

i hope this project isn't dead - it's one of the few geographically accurate maps in progress that looks good and seems playable.

Palestine v. Israel v. both... I know the rules say no name changes, but if it's going to cause a fuss maybe this could just be called the "Holy Land" with the quotes intact.

mistakes on middle east map

Postby serkancatal on Sat Jan 06, 2007 6:26 pm

as i told before on some topics there r some mistakes on middle east map and actually i would like from moderators to change it. i wonder people's ideas about that. mistakes r as follows:

1- the place called armenia is "van", a turkish city. armenia is a country and nothing to do with turquia. and armenia never have those lands the history so i dont understant y it is shown as so
2- the place called caucasia is actually armenia. caucasia is a region including azerbeijan, armenia, georgia and so many others.
3- there is no place called kurdistan in the world. in the map place as shown as kurdistan is actually musul-kerkuk. musul and kerkuk have their own people and it belongs to iraq. since iraq is divided to cities in that map such as baghdad, than the place as shown as kurdistan has to be musul-kerkuk.

seem like minor nit-picking mistakes.... are they really worth changing if they wont effect gameplay?

of course yes. and if the majority says that it has to be changed it is a must. even if the majority says no they should consider that it is a disrispect to the people who live there. i am not asking to create a map or to change the gameplay. i am just asking for a correction and i think just changing the names will not take more then 1 minute. to overstate i can create a map and put a city with my name or i can show some land that it is belonging to my country which is not in real life and which my country desire to have or i desire to have etc.

While you say that the "mistakes" are offensive to the people that live there, your condemnation of Kurdistan is also quite offensive. Kurdistan (in Kurdish: Kurdewari) IS a place in the world, primarily inhabited by the oppressed Kurdish population. Just because Kurdistan has very little to no political stance, as Kurds are simultaneously persecuted by their Turkic, Persic, and Arabic neighbors, doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.
