I changed my vote to #2, making this a temporary tie.

I can see the beauty in 4, but it just is not my style for a slightly-RISK-inspired-game map. The person who made it did very well with the textures and they look very nice, but I just can't imagine playing CC on that.

Well I posted before but I voted #2 …

I like #3 but as many times said before it's just too much on the eyes IMO. It's hard to read the territory names, the territories themselves seem very squished and the texture is a lot to behold. I absolutely love the title, though.

I voted for #3

I agree completely that it needs some major tweaking in terms of colors and legibility, but I think it is by far the most original and has the most potential. All of the other maps look just like any other map you see made on CC. #3 truly stands out as a great effort, and with a little fixing up, I can see it being a great map.

The finalists have two weeks to tweak the map. These issues of color saturation, border visibility and font legibility can all be addressed and looked at.

#3 is by far the most creative and different of all 5.
It at least deserves the chance to address these issues and currently is in the voting lead so it looks like it might get a shot at it.

However, if it does make it to the finals and does not fix these problems, I would vote for another map.

I agree. There should be updates allowed. Then as the maps change, people can adjust their votes. Just 1 update per day per map. It would allow for feedback to really be used and to see which map makers can take the input and apply it quickly and properly.

I agree, too. With some editing my vote can easily change to #3.

Interesting idea to allow updates mid-vote... why couldn't somebody have brought this up a few days ago? #-o

I disagree that mid-vote updates are a good idea. This is an awkward time of year (at least in the US and I would imagine much of Europe) to be giving potential advantage to a cartographer with few day-to-day commitments over people who have finals, holiday parties, and various other types of Shit Going On Around This Time Of Year.

considering that I've brought up the idea of everyone being allowed an edit on more than one occasion prior to this, I find your post annoying, Oaktown.

not exactly the idea you're talking about but I don't see how this one little thing someone said pushed you over the line of being in agreement of the idea to allow a second version.

Anyone else have comments on how to improve the maps? Ed and Rj's posts were very useful.

I'd be happy to discuss further the idea of allowing updates mid-voting, but let's do it back in the original Competitions announcement thread and let folks use this space to talk about the maps, eh? Thanks.

I really want to comment on the maps guys, but I'm refraining from commenting and voting as I'm one of the entrants. There's a lot of talent here, and if any of these maps were put up as first drafts, they'd definitely get support and exposure. Every map has something in it that is good, and while they all need polishing, they also all demonstrate the level of talent on this site. Hats off to all =D>

3 is too busy and unreadable to me.

I am deciding between 4 and 5. It's 5 for now. But we'll see. I'll give the maps some time to simmer.

I didn't even know there were 69 regular foundry goers...and there's no announcement for this yet, so it's unlikely that random people not-foundry related voted.

Can the mods check sub-forums of people competing?
cause number 4 getting 21 new votes in the time 2 and 3 get only 5 seems kinda suspicious, especially because 2 and 3 were pretty far ahead yesterday after most of the regular mapmakers voted.

I'm not accusing anyone of cheating, I'm just saying that I think one of the admins could check clan forums to make sure there's no behind-the-scenes vote gathering going on.

oh so many choices (really, 5 is a lot for me to choose from) and only 1 vote to give..... arg its so hard!!!

1: Like the satellite feel to it, but as most have said, it needs more color

2: in my opinion the colors are to bright, and they start to hurt my eyes after a couple minutes

3: Love the different perspective of this one, but the texture could be leightened up a bit

4: Really well done, but i dont care for how little attention seems to be given to the mini-map, as it has lots of isible black on it that look like black spots where the black outline bunches up. I like the 3D feel to it, but the colors are very similar and the green lines around the territory borders is disracting for me for some reason.

5: This one seems to simple for me. It seems to me like oaktowns original image was taken, made bigger, the outline sketched, and then just the colors added on (slightly different ones tho) and a slight texture, and other fancy stuff. It doesnt really catch my interest that well, and i would have to say the best part is the attack routes, mini-map, compass, and the texture. I just dont care for the rest of it that much.

so hard to choose.... #-o
