Clan Purgatory - for potential members [LOCK IF YOU LIKE]

Postby jiminski on Sun Mar 15, 2009 11:54 am

Access to a sub-forum for those who are undergoing trial games or getting to know members of an existing Clan:

    Specifics:
    • Those not yet accepted into a clan could be given permission by the clan leader to access a partitioned induction forum; a baby-pool to the main clan pond if you will.
In here: decisions made in game, future strategy and plan reasoning could be talked over by those already in the clan and those hoping to join the clan. Discussions and courting could all be undertaken in the safety of a closed forum but without the candidate being allowed full access to the clan forum (where the really nasty stuff gets said ;) )

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
    • allow a more detailed assessment of an individuals acumen and character.
    • protects candidates and recruiters alike from incompatible matches in the safety of a private and relaxed forum
    • creating an academy system for clans to train, advise and generally show the ropes to new players without having to immediately make them clan members

Good idea but probably hard (impossible?) to do. Wouldnt it be easier for trial members just to be FULL members but on a probabtion period...?

Certainly not impossible... but is it hard?

I don't imagine so; it is simply the same as giving a clan leader the ability to give access new, full members. In the worst case it is no more tricky than making a new clan forum.

you could of course give new members a probation period but that means taking leap of faith and allowing access to all the dirty-washing in the main forum. The benefit of having a one or a number of new applicants in the Baby-pool is that is gives a new atmosphere to the process .. maybe if a couple of applicants met in there went through the process together and decided the clan did not suit them they could join together and make a new clan. Just a conjecture, but a Limbo-forum adds a little, structure, difference and excitement to the process.

The only problem would be. that you would need two groups.. one for new recruits and one for full members.. that's the part that I don't think will happen.. as only admins can make new groups.

as i say, it just needs to be set up to allow two layers of access.
When a clan leader gives access they just need the options:

    1. Full access (to full members)
    2. Induction access (to one thread or sub-forum, given to Full members and Potential members)

at the very very worst regarding site man-hours, this little gem would involve creating another user-group! : - with the sites focus upon clan led gaming and the essential imposition of eclectic skill based members in all clans*, this would be a very useful addition.

*the clan ladder and clan league adds the necessity of a broader game-type whereby clans who do not play a broad mix of maps and styles need to draft in players who they may not regularly play with.

this can also be an option for clan leaders to have...for those who do not like it.

Sub-forums for clans would be nice. However, access levels are very tough to do I'm told.

I think this is a great idea..

I am currently training members in How to play dubs and tripps many cc players like it, and all want to be in a clan.

I forget which clan does it, but new recruits are only allowed to post in one thread until they have proven themselves. Or they get booted. I want to say BPB, but might have been another clan.

Providing we are kindly permitted to start the new usergroup (e-ticket sent some hours ago), we will deal with this ourselves and this needs no further site-input.

Mod - you may lock this if you like.. i think this can be achieved without the need for layered access via a sister usergroup.

Not the Bpb, we encourage new recruits to troll all threads. How else can we determine their worth?

Seriously though, I like the idea. I am always scared if we let a new person in, that they might be a plant or a spy. So I always vote no.

Well. Lack could give everyone admin and let them set their own permissions for each group member.. but I highly doubt that will happen.

Well....we had this feature at our old headquarters thru MSN I believe it was (xigames group is 7+ years old). In some ways it was cool but in others it was not. It also led to adding further layers for the leaders, committees, discussion groups, etc and it got messy. Overall I did not like it; here in CC xi has 120 or so members, each one having gone thru the required steps and we have never had a problem that this suggestion would resolve.

Additionally, I simply dont think this will happen.....especially if you keep badgering the mods....lol.
