Add Large Map Ability

Postby Ran Taro on Tue Jan 10, 2006 10:57 pm

Is there a way to make the map a bit bigger? It looks great, but I have trouble seeing distinguishing some things on it - especially when there are many players, so some have similar colours. I don't think I have terrible eyes either...

thanks

I think youve done a great job with the site lackattack, but if possible to change the colours of the armies I would agree that its a bit hard to tell whos who

new player colours

Postby lackattack on Thu Jan 12, 2006 8:31 am

I hear you guys. It's especially a problem when something like 20% of men are colour-blind (and something tells me that most risk fans are men)

So I switched up the colours. Do you think they are now easy enough to distinguish?

As for bigger maps, The maps now are as big as possible to fit on a 1024x768 screen without having to scroll down to attack or scroll right to see stuff. But some people have larger screens, and my plan is to make bigger versions of each map and a way to switch between small and big maps. This will take a few weeks to do cuz I have to get my map designers involved...

It's definatley much better now. Thanks for that.

If you wanted to improve it even more, you might just make it right click zoom (then left click zoom back out).

Vectors

Postby Tr0y on Mon Jan 23, 2006 2:16 pm

Maybe design maps w/ vectors for now on so scaling a map would be no big issue.

Also, alternate map skins would be nice...

I like what you guys have done so far though :)

Get a donation button on the website too.

Yes i to belive there should be a zoom on it. I love the game and im a new member but i dont like having to put my face right up against the moniter it hurt's my eye's. I dont want to wear glasses ethier . I even tryed saving it as a picture to get a closer look at the map but all it showed was numbers. If i could some how be able to zoom in on certain spot's at will the game would keep me in it longer.

Okay, bigger maps are officially in the works. There will be 2 sizes of each map, and you can switch back and forth. It may take a few weeks to get the graphics done.

for people who are color blind you could add a small "a", "b", "c", ... below the number of army on a country related to a player. Even though that would be a pain to follow, color blind people could at least be sure of what they see and other will just ignore it. Just my two cents.

Add Large Map Option

Postby Alex on Fri Feb 03, 2006 5:45 pm

It would be very nice if the maps could be bigger, especially for asia (I did not know malaysia was only accessible via laos!) and usa (can't even read the state's name). That would be very appreciated!

Thanks Lack for looking into the map thing.
I am color blind and the red and green colors are impossible to tell apart (at times i have been trying to attack myself and wondered why it wasnt working....lol).
Maybe an option to change the colors on the screen might help....otherwise, top side dude!! :D

LACKATTACK - this is a really good idea

Postby Pedronicus on Tue Feb 21, 2006 6:54 pm

Can you create a large map (Seperate page on the site) for each map, showing clearly all the adjoining territories, for reference.

I've been playing Risk for years, but still have trouble working out what Scandinavia is attached to.

This would help new players (And old ones alike)

Thanks, From Pete.

Larger maps are now available.
Improvements for colour blind players are on my to-do list.

That would be kind of rediculus. Im no site programmer but I think you can blow up the playing fields or continets. Just put it in an image editor and change the size.
