Move "Invites" from mail to Tab *Done*

Postby ubersky on Wed Sep 09, 2009 6:22 pm

Concise description:
  • Move "Invites" from mail to Tab

Specifics:
  • Move the invite notifications to game from Mail to a separate "My Games" Tab

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • The Mail system is a little clunky, so going through lots of invite notifications is a little tedious. Moving the invites from Mail to a new Tab on the My Games page streamlines the process.
  • No need to open lots of mails to find the games to join
  • Reduces the storage requirements in the Mail system (as it it finite)

I know Lack has some improvements planned for the Invite system, though I'm unsure if they are in the next series of updates.

Like 2 weeks ago, lack said he's make a "auto-join" button in the PM/ What happened to that?

This suggestion is to remove the PM altogether. For efficiency sake, it's onerous and adds lots of steps. It's especially bad when you are in lots of tournaments.

Now, I know the Tournament system could have a lot of rework done, and there have been lots of suggestions (I've sugged a few), but this sug us expressly scoped on the invite/PM system.

Right now it takes 4 steps to join
  • Open Inbox
  • Open Mail
  • Click "View Game"
  • Accept Invite

If you move the invites to a Tab, then you can limit this to 2 for 1 game, but lots less if you join lots of games.

I didn't see any announcement, but the "4 steps to join" seems to have been reduced to 3. I noticed that the invites I just received included an "Accept" link within the PM.

I still think that overall removing the PM's from the invite process is more efficient, but this improvement is definitely a step in the right direction and makes mass accepts faster.

How in the world do you take your turns if you're too lazy to click 3 times?

This really isn't neccessary. I mean, it'd be nice if this was there, and there was a robot to take all the turns I would take for me, run my tournaments, etc, but that'd just make me a fat lazy f*ck, and no one wants that.

Well, I did state in my opening that you multiply that times every invite you get. it's not that unusual being in HighlanderAttack, Tupence, or Peter Gibbons run tourneys to open my mailbox up to 15+ invites easy (if not more).

And I know you aren't expressly calling me out as a "fay lazy f*ck", the implication is there, and I don't appreciate it.

I've made a few "interface enhancement" suggestions, and I always seem to get someone posting something to the extent that I'm only suggesting it because I'm ultra mega lazy and can't handle lifting my index finger a few more times (if I'm not mistaken, one thread actually calculated the caloric output of said index finger movement).

I'm not lazy. I and likely others in the community have carpal and anything that can reduce the number of clicks would be nice. I'm an IT geek, so I'm clicking and typing all day long. I don't need people telling me I'm lazy for just providing feedback that suggest improved interface design.

I dislike the PM system as klunky. It demands multiple clicks to process operations that other mail systems don't. But this particular suggestion was simply to remove the PM's from the invite process. I can't seem to fathom why this has somehow translated into I'm a big ball of goo that can't handle clicking.

ok.. I'm done venting. If i've overreacted, I apologize. I maintain my suggestion has merit.

End of Line.

I actually do like the idea; I just see your reasoning as flawed.

I signed on this morning to 34 PM's - 1 useless one from a troll, 4 tournament auto-invite links, and 29 game invites. Took me less then a minute to join them all - not that hard.

However, I do like this idea, because right now, lackattack is going back on his word. He declares the forums a privilege, and says that it can be taken away without any lawful recourse, because we're paying for the right to be in the game and get those benefits. However, taking away the ability to recieve game invites via PM, is like taking away a major benefit of premium.

Not completely, because everyone can receive game invites. Only premiums can send out the invites.

I think this is a great idea and another way to stop inboxes from being flooded! Great idea!

I don't like to move everything specifically to "my games", I would rather see it relocated to an "invites" folder.

Well you can make your own folder if you wanted to. I just think an extra tab in the My Games section, a 5th tab, would be kinda cool.

I agree. an easy way to get those games. you could have a reminder similar to the one to leave feedback
you have x games you're invited to.
It also allows those users who have been vacationed to play these games still.
Lots of positive things to come out of a simple change. Though i have read somewhere that lack does wanna tinker with the invite system

This is a great idea. Having them go through PM takes more time and takes up inbox space unless you set up a rule. It's much more intuitive to have game invites go directly to My Games.

I like the concept of the idea but not the execution. The way I would do it would be:

in your game shown in the "Awaiting Players" tab you have your

-reserved-

slot shown in green, to differentiate between which reserved slot is for you or someone else. By clicking on the -reserved-, you get to a screen where it says:

Accept
Decline

Too many tabs would clog up the page IMO.

EDIT: there has to be some way to alert the player of an invite…

I like the Awaiting Players tab right now, but it should be changed to something like...

Awaiting Players [11][05]
In heaven... Everything is fine, in heaven... Everything is fine, in heaven... Everything is fine... You got your things, and I've got mine.

Seperate game invites

Postby cena-rules on Mon Feb 22, 2010 6:36 am

Concise description:
  • Have a seperate area in the interaction menu for game invites

Specifics:
  • Different location to seperate game invites from PM's
  • Allow forum banned users to recieve game invites

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • Keep the inbox and game requests more organised
  • Wont detract from forum banned users ability to play games with friends
  • Keep forum and game bans seperate

I think this would be a pretty good idea.
Also I think that when you reserve a spot for someone, it should state the players name instead of just saying 'reserved'.
