UTF8 and Speedups

Postby lackattack on Thu Oct 29, 2009 6:51 am

UTF-8

I've converted the website and database over to the UTF-8 character encoding. This means that we can now have game chat in all languages from japanese to hebrew! It is a first step towards translating Conquer Club in different languages, and other website improvements.

Speedups

I also defragmented the database and fixed a few bottlenecks...

  • The view entire log link is now 5x faster, which is nice because some longer games took a while to load.
  • Each hour, when the website cleans up expired game invites, several games would lock up for about 3 minutes or more. This has been eliminated.
  • Game finder searches for specific maps are now much faster.

I'll now start working on these issues:
  • Each night several games lock up due to an email issue
  • The game interface needs to be more fault tolerant so that it doesn't freeze when the server has a "hiccup".

still getting alot of slow response time, sometimes it will respond right away or something it will take 30seconds its off and on but mostly on so far. I take it that the fixings are still in the process though.

I fixed the scoreboard.

Unfortunately the database server is not entirely happy with these changes yet...

Turns out it was the scoreboard bug that was slowing things down! I guess even the database server doesn't want to see maxatstuy as Conqueror

I forgot to mention this fix:

  • Game finder searches for specific maps are now much faster.

I think that log-downloading feature affected the Battle Royale... I can't get into it without Firefox freezing on me. It hasn't happened before this update.
