So you get 5 points even if you lose a BLANK tile game? I think I lost one of those but didn't get the 5 points. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding.

It is 5 points for losing the blank tile game and you will get them. None of the points from the second set have been counted in the scores. I will update them once all of the games are complete.

Hi JoJo,

I don't complain often, but it seems that the distribution of games makes it impossible for me to win the Tournament.

I used some Excel-tricks and here is the Point-distribution of the Round 1 games:
5 Points used for a blank tile.

shoop76 - 39 pts
mongbane - 34 pts
JimRocky - 30 pts
jug68 - 30 pts
Aggresso - 29 pts
BrotherWolf - 26 pts
Bigragooch - 26 pts
lodge - 24 pts
redtide - 24 pts
vykingsfan64 - 24 pts
The Mantis - 23 pts
dragon dor - 21 pts
bignick3833 - 20 pts
adam666 - 20 pts
AndrewB - 20 pts
HighlanderAttack - 20 pts
sugc7 - 20 pts
Athiest - 19 pts
scottie - 19 pts
vexx - 19 pts
fbonsignori - 18 pts
manc - 18 pts
Paragon42 - 18 pts
herus - 17 pts
NotNowKato - 17 pts
dowian2 - 17 pts
ZionT - 17 pts
LucaV - 16 pts
mattattam - 16 pts
ubersky - 16 pts
LLLUUUKKKEEE - 16 pts
heatz - 15 pts
lurkerleader - 15 pts
SNARF17WD - 15 pts
amazzony - 14 pts
Iron Maid - 13 pts
Annexator - 11 pts
ConanCarnage - 11 pts
Tupence - 11 pts
SouthernWarrior - 10 pts

I only had once a 2 Point game and once a 3 Point game and could fortunately make it to Round 2. As you can see players which had about the same Points distributed couldn't make it.

Now in Round 2 I get 5 games with all just 1 Point. Even with Double Scoring or Triple Scoring it's almost impossible to get at the last 10 Players. This is very annoying. I hope you can do something about the Point Distribution so that all players get the same chance to qualify.

Regards,

Iron

The reason I'm not that concerned with the point distribution is that the double/triple scoring actually allows players that have received less than ideal tiles a chance to score well. Even if a player gets all 1pt tiles, he could score 45pts per set - 90pts per round. That said, it is easier for a player with better tiles to advance with less wins. The first round really is somewhat to chance, putting the pressure on players that get the short end of the stick. Getting good tiles is a bonus, but the reality is that the player must win and win quickly otherwise that player is never going to advance. After looking at your list, I'm less worried. The top 2 players are hovering in the middle of the list. The player with the most possible points (shoop, who I consider to be a very good player) didn't advance and 2 of the bottom 10 did. I would be concerned if the top 20 advanced and the bottom 20 didn't.

I tried to base it on the game of Scrabble so the tiles are random assigned to players like in the game. This means that it won't be equal at the beginning but by Round 4, everyone has played for roughly the same amount of points. You just have to win the games to get there. Keep in mind that 69% of the tiles are worth 1pt. It's not uncommon for players to get all of them for a set or two. Also, all of the rounds have 2 sets to try to keep the "5 1pt nightmare" under control. In the previous editions, the players who were in the finals had typically won the most games and didn't receive the best tiles. Also, I wouldn't worry about your life in the tournament. Clearly, you were able to get enough fast wins out of the not-so-great tile games to blow past some of the players with better tiles. And in the next set, you are looking at a few good tiles.

Thanks for the answer. I probably didn't read the whole multiplying thing, which would make it indeed possible to get some more points. I'll do my best to score up a little. ;)

Gilgamesh should be worth more points--so damn confusing it took me three rounds to attack a one and cost me a double letter

There is one game remaining in round 2. Since this game will not affect the top 10, we will move on to Round 3!

The story of the last set was Bigragooch, who flew from 15th place to 4th place after being the only player to receive a triple word score! =D>

The first set of round 3 will be out shortly.
