GM Script: chatglove - a floating game chat - v 1.6.4

Postby Foxglove on Wed Dec 23, 2009 6:41 pm

chatglove - a floating game chat by Foxglove! (naming by rabbiton)

What does it do?
It detaches the chat log and chat input controls from the page and allows you to drag the chat frame around the game page. It also makes your chat warm and fuzzy!

Where do I get it?
Install the greasemonkey script from here: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/64532

It gets better and better!
Changes in version 1.6.3:
- Fixed 'Mark All Chat as Read' bug
- Fixed bug that didn't allow users to enter chat in games in which they weren't playing
- ADDED FEATURE: in chatglove options users now can set the "chatsniff" interval to search for new game chat every page load, every 1 minute, or every 5 mintues

Changes in version 1.6.2:
- Fixed bug that caused the Game Chat count to reset periodically to show all games as having new chat
- Added "Reset chatglove" position option to menu (only shows when you're looking at a game page)

Changes in version 1.6.0:
- Added chatsniffer functionality to detect new game chat (this option can be disabled from the chatglove Options menu)
- Fixed bug that caused page to jump to top of the chatglove when entering a game in detached mode

Changes in version 1.0.3:
- Added option in the left menu to specify behavior of the self/team checkbox: original or persistent

Changes in version 1.0.2:
- Added option in the left menu to specify initial positioning of the chatglove: original or detached

How do I use this?
  • Click the "detach chat" link located to the upper-right of the game chat log
  • Resize the window by clicking and dragging the bottom-right corner
  • Reposition the window by clicking and dragging the header bar
  • PROFIT!
  • (Click the "restore" link to return the chat log to its previous page position)

Sorry to double-post, but is there some way to make "detach" the default?

Not yet!

I wanted to get some feedback on this before I make some decisions. So right now the window detaches to its last location, regardless of what game or what map you're in.

Would you want it to always go to the same location, regardless? Just have an option to be permanently detached? Would you want it to be map specific? Or game specific?

P.S. I hope you like it. :D

Hmm, the ideal way for me would to have something on the sidebar asking for Default: detached or original. The second-best, and probably easiest (I don't know!) way would to have detached be the default as soon as you install; then, you could drag it anywhere, and, like it is now, when you navigate to a new game, it's in the same spot, still detached.

Don't really need this functionality, but the script looks nice and neat.

Awesome job. I guess we need a gallery of GM scripts now - too many add-ons available for everyone.

Yeah - it's not for everyone! I wrote it specifically for games I have in which my partner uses game chat, and not IM. It makes it far, far easier to discuss moves and turns when I can see both chat and the map at the same time, and don't have to scroll up and down.

So really, I wrote this script for two people, but decided to put it out there for others to use, also. :)

Yes, the best way to come up with good ideas is to solve your own problems. :)

Also - I will have an update within a day or two to make it an option to leave the chat permanently detached!
