Timing ur Cashes

Postby firsal901 on Sun May 30, 2010 2:24 am

Well... in one doubles game i had 5 spoils and if i turn them in i get only 4 troops
so i thought "why not save it for later when the bonus reaches 10"

i did it and i was able to to ward of a attack on Africa

so what do you think???

Cash timing is very relevant in escalating games.

It's probably not a great idea to intentionally miss a turn in a team game. You miss a fort, you miss a card, and, in that time, the enemy could take or hold a bonus. I don't do it, and I don't think you should either... especially against good opponents (though you probably don't have much of a chance against them, anyway). ;)

I suggest you just play a lot more and eventually you'll learn all aspects of team play.

That being said, I find timing my cashes to often be one of the more challenging parts of a game. It's usually an easy decision, but there are times when it can get tough. It all depends on how the board looks, how many sets your team has, and how many cards your opponents have. It's really impossible clearly to explain in such a general way. Better stop now, before I get carried away!

Edit: Sorry for unintentionally rhyming "way" and "away." It sucks, but I couldn't find another word that I wanted to put in either spot. I fking hate shitty rhymes.

u can also make ur decision when u have only 4 spoils. one way to avoid gaining a 5th spoil is to start ur turn, deploy to ur teammate, then end ur turn without assaulting anything. that way, u've actually helped ur teammate during ur turn instead of doing nothing. sometimes, it's best to cash even if u receive only 4 troops. u'd clearly cash spoils immediately if ur opponents held a bonus that u wanted to break. as commander says, it depends on a number of different factors.

You can't take your turn and not cash if you have 5 cards. Therefore, you must have either missed your turn, or given us incorrect information.

Game 6984411

Well yes he missed 2 consecutive rounds (6 & 7) and in the round he changed spoils for 10 armies....

red and blue missed 2 turns while yellow 3 of 11 rounds...green did not miss any turn...maybe that's why they won

I think you did good defending with them, although I think just using them to defend is a waste as then your opponent will trade in and get a little more troops and maybe topple your defenses. I think you shouldn't worry if they're worth a couple more troops next turn; trade them in when you're facing elimination, and when you're launching big attacks (like conquering a continent or eliminating an opponent).

Check out my tournament please, I need lots of players. Thanks!

If I am playing Esc. card and your at the beginning of a game (the difference between 4, 6, 8, or 10). It will depend on the circumstance, but if i have one or two of those cards on the board and you get +2 added to it. You 4 cash is worth the same as a 6 cash, but I only use them if A.I wont have that area next turn or B. to get ahead of the other(s) or teams.

id say almost always get a card.. so what you cash 4, take a card and a chance at a new set with 3 cards.. taking cards wins esc games..
then ofcourse there are exceptions to this rule but as a general i would say cash your set and look at it as a way of getting the first steep set (10 to 15 step)..

Clearly the implication is that he actually had less than 5 cards and opted to play instead of cashing.

I think that Elmo thinks you can "check the later box" with 5 cards, because he made it pretty clear that he had 5. ;)

I'm no pro at escalating, but I think you shouldn't be the first to cash, like you had done.

Also, you shouldn't get a card if you're weak and have a chance to be eliminated. Weak people with cards are like food for the strong.

Not necessarily, it depends on situation. Let's say you have 4 cards including a set and a chance to eliminate a player who has 3 cards. Let's say that if you cash your set right away you have a better chance to eliminate that player, but you may also succeed without cashing although it will be harder. In this case you will have to decide if you take the risk and try the elimination without cashing first, because this will give you a total of 7 cards in hand which will be very likely to contain 2 sets, but if you cash your set first, you will after elimination only have 4 cards again and you'll have to wait another turn to cash the next set.

Also, you shouldn't get a card if you're weak and have a chance to be eliminated. Weak people with cards are like food for the strong.

This is true. Also try not to attack anyone half-way, ie. leaving him with very few troops and many cards, because you'll be handing the game to another player on a silver platter. If you go for the elimination, you need to be reasonably sure that you also succeed in it, otherwise you will very likely Lose The Game.
