Well it could be a gateway across the huge antarctic gulf... thats where they flow. Maybe make them a -1 per round. Im doing this all from memory, probably need to look at the map so I dont have to be so ambiguous. Ok, just pulled up a map.

At the weddell sea and Ross sea, there are huge (not like an iceburg - they are pretty flat and not deep) "Ice flows" They break up and move around.

Could be a skip across the bay kinda territory.

South orkney island could be used as a territory too as most ppl consider it part of the antartic region. (but thats up to you, just a tool you could use)

On the indian ocean side there is a LOT more there than most maps show.. I dont know why because its all unclassified.. Ill see If I can find a better map to show you.

Company coming in like 3 hours, and as all good mexicans they will stay a few days Im guessing, so Ill be a little busy, but ill get you that map.

I think you mean ice floes. They're kind of small, though, so I don't think you have to include them.

I just looked, looks like they are called flows (floes ) when they break up into 6mile pieces... It was never about "have to" this was more about "it is a cool feature you could" add.

you should also note that all these 6mile floes break off from larger pieces. Ive never been to Antarctica proper but Ive seen these floes. they are impressive.

Anyway, thats my 2 bits. Ill try to find a diff map on this later.

edit

ha! you had it on page three.

there are at least 2 military bases this map doesnt have that are of fair size.

let me keep looking. also I agree with helix, straight forward with some of the deserts as impassible should make a fine map.

No I mean design the gameplay for the map... you seem to have lots of ideas, and the point of this thread was to find someone to design the gameplay for an antarctic map, so I could just do the graphics...

Open ms paint... take some existing map of antarctic, doodle the borders & territory names on top of it, bonus areas etc.

If you don't want to or don't have the time I understand... Bison king already made one gp plan, but I thought it would be cool if I could get some competing designs and then choose the best ;)

Well, looking at that map and all the bases there... what f the map revolved around the existing bases. There could be antarctic territories and the base territories (23 territories). Arctic territories have -1 or -2 decay and the bases have no decay.

Then maybe have all the bases start as starting points with auto deploy or something and have the arctic territories at neutrals.

Yeah... But what about the south pole? And would there be any other bonuses beside the base autodeploy?

Also this would mean we would neet at least 16 bases, and preferably at least 24 regular territories.

How about one territory... he who gets the drop gets the game. Totally random.

Antarctica: The Russian Roulette of Continents.

And as dumb as this sounds, I would play this game at least once, if not then multiple times.

Well, it should probably go in the no pile... but think about it. The ominous image of Antarctica, a list of 7 colonels and all you need to do is join to get their points... maybe.

Mm-hmm. How would one get those colonels to join though?

Seriously though, IH, if you have any ...eh... serious gameplay ideas for this map, you are just as welcome as anyone else to put together a gameplay draft and post it here... can't have too many ideas after all. ;)

Sounds like an idea from the Foundry Past---I recall a slot machine map. :)

===================

As for the map, if there is any difficulty figuring out the direction of the project, one could always do a futuristic Antarctica map, I see some fun potential for that...but I suppose it makes sense to get a vanilla Antarctica map first.

Mainly, I'm just hoping to bypass that pesky 2 map limit by having someone else do the gameplay and put the map through the foundry on his name ;)

...Well, we don't have a vanilla moon map either, and we're still making a moon map based on a futuristic war. So I for one would have no problem with a futuristic battle scene on the antarctic... really, anything goes, as long as I can put in some penguins ;)

I've been lurking in the various Foundry forums for quite some time, wanting to get my hands into it, but also wanting to avoid anything like Blitzaholic has with Clandemonium.

I've got a couple of ideas for it, but I must admit that I completely and utterly lack graphical skills. MS Paint will really be the best that I can do, but if that works for you then I'll give it a go.

natty, you've already got one idea from The Bison King, and sounds like a second coming from AoN. I'll try to get my idea done tonight or in the next couple of days, and then you'll have 3 choices to choose from. I'll commit to running with it all the way through as a true partnership if you choose my ideas. Ultimately though, as the artist, it's your map and your choice on which gameplay to go with.

Oh, and I haven't looked at e_i_pi's design so if mine looks like his it is entirely by accident. Don't want his idea biasing mine.
