Bigger, more complex strategic maps

Postby sm8900 on Tue May 11, 2010 4:37 pm

Here are 2 screenshots of maps from another site. i noticed that these maps seem to be a bit bigger than the typical CC map, with more spaces, regions and more connections for each space. Overall, they seem basically more complex. I was wondering whether perhaps we could consider trying to produce a map or two like these maps?

The maps you linked to have 129 and 86 territories respectively. By comparison, World 2.1 has 113 territories, WWII Europe has 110, Feudal Epic has 126, Supermax has 143, and Oasis 147. I think we've got no dearth of larger maps.

All the same, those drafts have potential.

The more unique the map suggestion is, the quicker it is likely to pass through the Foundry. As Dimwit mentioned, there are several maps of this 'large' style already in play. Perhaps you could come up with something really original?

not to mention that they are terribly incorrect historically..

very poor drafts by someone who doesn´t really give a shit about the theme they chose.

Perhaps you could come up with something really original?

maps with huge time-warps are always original since they don´t represent actual history.

Let´s make a map of 15th century England. It will be ruled by Denmark but called "la grande-bretagne".
Ireland will be called "isle of the Scots". I will make it during school lunch.

well, thanks for your reply. however, I still think these maps are really cool, and unique. they make for all kinds of really interesting gameplay twists and outcomes. feel free to look at them further if you want. thanks.

Well, I don't think we have a map with four deploy-bonus capital territories, so I guess that's something.
Someone get on that?

also, how about a map of eurasia, with subregions within each country?

..that would be hundreds of territories and most of it would have to be letter+number since there would be no space for the names of territories. a map without any actual names would be pretty boring imo

well, if you click the links in my original post, you'll see two possible examples of this idea.

I think there's already enough maps focusing on Europe already (Europe, Europa, Europe 1914, WWII Europe, etc.) so I would rly like to see the Eurasian map because it merges both continents. People right now could choose to play the Europe or Asia maps when choosing continental maps, so a combination of the two would be great.
