Also, in case you want to link to some of these... these are the "similar maps" that come up in chipv's table

Classic
Caribbean Islands
Conquer 4
Germany
High Seas
Hong Kong
Middle East
Middle East
Puget Sound
USA
Jamaica
Macedonia

Thanks for the "s". Droped. :D

Dunno - I'd add Classic map to the list. But other than that, I would think that game setting guides would be more useful for people to check for additional reading?

It's a good bonus, but not a game winner per se. I feel that the Maritimes have gotten it's 15 minutes of fame in this guide.

Oh, I wasn't thinking in terms of "additional reading" as much as giving suggestions to people for other maps they may like if they liked this map. (Websites do it all the time: If you liked this, try this.

The idea of "links" was simply because we can; not that it couldn't hurt them to be able to link right to a guide for a map you're suggesting so they can see if indeed it might appeal.

Introduction
The Canada map is, as its name implies, a map covering the Great White North in all its pride and glory. The statement A Mari usque ad Mare means "From Sea to Sea" and is Canada's motto (approved by King George V in May 1921). The map has 42 regions with 6 bonus zones. This provides a good sized map for 2-6 player games.

Although the Canada map appears rather square, the Hudson Bay (impassable) and two bottle neck regions in practice split the map into an eastern and a western part. The Canada map is a simple, conservative and classic-style Conquer Club map. It was originally released in March 2006 during the website’s dawn and revamped in October 2007 to make the graphics appeal to the Playstation-generation. The map relies primarily on region count advantage and zone bonuses to provide an edge in each game. Consequently, being a simple, old school map – what works on Classic generally works on the Canada map.

Someone needs to decide on capitalisation so we can get all the guides consistent.

First time I've looked at this in a while. I've suggested just a few small lingo's in red & put some small content questions in blue. Then let's get this into frinal review. =D>

PS I specially like the way you talk about the map in the opening & the way you've refined this through responding to feedback & successive drafts.

Thanks - have made the changes (and "uncapitalized" the whole thing hoping nothing happens to the lingo thread).

Just two points:
<lingo: have we got a lingo standard for game-numbers? should it be 4-player with the hyphen?
- I think "2 player" is the most commonly used term (but I may be wrong).
<should you also mention you can block the whole Maritimes bonus zone from Gaspe?>
- Nah. That's in the team game part, wanna try to avoid too many restatements.

If we're going to be grammatically anal, it should be Two Player and Four Player, with or without hyphen; writing rules agree that in sentences, you write out numbers less than 10 and use numerals for numbers 10 or higher - but hyphen or no-hyphen depends on whether you're using APA or other format.

LOL. Well, anal is cool. I've been told that twelve is the magic number, then you write out 13.... :D

What's APA?

An acronym meaning: American Psychology Association. More specifically, the APA came up with a writing style that about half the colleges in the United States adhere to; rather like NFL. Then there's the AFL version, another version made up by some other association whose name escapes me. Some differences are like, with APA, you put a comma after items in a series before the and: this, this, and that... with the other style, this, this and that (no comma before the "and"). APA tends to frown on hyphenated-words other than those in a dictionaryand the other style likes hyphenated words (Two-Player, Two Player). APA sets a bunch of other rules, too, then changes them every few years so they can sell a new manual to colleges  And then, the NFL version people get to duke it out with the AFL version people over whose style is best, which probably comes down to, "who sold more rulebooks this year?"

Mondo important, no? No!

Ah. There you go... :D

Now. Personally, I never put a comma before an "and". But I've always discredited the limeys for that anal "comma before an and" way to write it, thought it was a limey thing. Or has the APA just imported it?

Maybe...
Use a comma to separate the elements in a series (three or more things), including the last two. "He hit the ball, dropped the bat, and ran to first base." You may have learned that the comma before the "and" is unnecessary, which is fine if you're in control of things. However, there are situations in which, if you don't use this comma (especially when the list is complex or lengthy), these last two items in the list will try to glom together (like macaroni and cheese). Using a comma between all the items in a series, including the last two, avoids this problem. This last comma—the one between the word "and" and the preceding word—is often called the serial comma or the Oxford comma. In newspaper writing, incidentally, you will seldom find a serial comma, but that is not necessarily a sign that it should be omitted in academic prose.

And what does a comma do, a comma does nothing but make easy a thing that if you like it enough is easy enough without the comma. A long complicated sentence should force itself upon you, make you know yourself knowing it and the comma, well at the most a comma is a poor period that lets you stop and take a breath but if you want to take a breath you ought to know yourself that you want to take a breath. It is not like stopping altogether has something to do with going on, but taking a breath well you are always taking a breath and why emphasize one breath rather than another breath. Anyway that is the way I felt about it and I felt that about it very very strongly. And so I almost never used a comma. The longer, the more complicated the sentence the greater the number of the same kinds of words I had following one after another, the more the very more I had of them the more I felt the passionate need of their taking care of themselves by themselves and not helping them, and thereby enfeebling them by putting in a comma.
So that is the way I felt about punctuation in prose, in poetry it is a little different but more so …

Overall a really good guide although i think you should add something about trying to get and hold 15 regions on your first turn as an alternative to a bonus or the rather difficult task of getting your opponent to 11 regions.

What do you mean - we wanna suggest to the noobs that they should attack neutrals to get to 15 areas?

I'm guessing he means, stress the importance of a 14-region start (1v1) take at least 1 region from an opponent to get to 15. That only reduces the opponent to 13 areas, but still leaves an advantage if the player can keep 15 regions. Trying to get the opponent to 11 regions in first round will be difficult, and possibly foolish; leave a string of 1's behind you that he'll take.
