I've blown the dust off this draft, and had a think about connections in Indonesia. I've grouped the Greater Sunda Islands together for a bonus at the moment; but am equally contemplating a "+4 for any 5 Indonesian Islands" bonus or something (there are 11 of them on the map).

I keep losing count of the number of territories, which is why there are extra numbers on the bonus legend. Those values are all up for debate, as are the possible inclusion of any significant/natural impassables in sensible places.

I've added in a connection from india to Sumatra, to try and make Indonesia less of an obvious place to start and expand (tucked away in the corner), but I'm not too sure what impact it'll have on India...

Nice to see this back in action ;)

A few comments:

1. Seems like Sumatra should connect to Thailand before it connects to India, if that makes sense.
2. Not a fan of the "hold any 5 islands for +4" idea. I say stick with standard bonuses.
3. I think the island of Bali should go with the Indonesia bonus, despite it not necessarily belonging to Indonesia, because then you don't have as many border territories.
4. A connection should be made from Oman to Pakistan.
5. Is Singapore necessary? It just seems like a lot of clutter for such a tiny territory.

My thoughts on the bonuses (as I've noticed you probably used the bonus calculator):
Caucasus: +3
Levant: +2
Arabia: +4 (+5 with Oman connection)
Siberia: +1
Mid-Asia (is there a better name you could use?): +6
The Orient: +4
India: +3
Indochina: +5 (+6 with Sumatra-Thailand border)
Indonesia: +4
Greater Sunda Islands: +4 (+3 without Bali)

Just my thoughts. Take what you will.

Even though half of Borneo is technically part of Malaysia?

I can live with a Malaysia-Sumatra connection instead though...

I think Singapore should have a sea connection as well, since it's such a large port, and trade city.

My bonus suggestion:

Caucasus: +2
Levant: +2
Arabia: +5
Siberia: +2
Mid-Asia +7 (Bactria maybe as an alternative name or central asia)
The Orient: +6
India: +3
Indochina: +4
Indonesia: +3
Greater Sunda Islands: +3

Whoa whoa... get rid of the borneo-Malaysia bridge? Half the country is on Borneo! I find it even stranger that that section of the country isn't marked out. Granted, what nobunga says may be true... the Malaysians still fought a war with Indonesia for the piece of land and won. I think it ought to be recognized.

this map needs to be more balanced (graphically). Hard to do since Russia is so freakin huge. But the bottom right just looks way too cluttered right now.

This could be relieved by using a tilted perspective, bringing the bottom or bottom right to the fore and tilting Russia away.

Sounds like a plan to me - something along the lines of the Canada / Great Lakes perspective style?

That could look impressive.

Yes, those are two good examples of the idea I had in mind.

Tilted perspective could work... although what would really be nice would be some more space...

I think if you are going to split Indonesia into different territories, you might as well do the same for other large Asian countries like Russia, China, and India. This would be a change to how China operates as a single territory in World 2.1 It acts like a gateway to more than 10 other regions and anyone holding it would suddenly have a lot more dominance over the board.
Also, you could add some sea routes between the Arabian peninsula and Iran, as they are only separated by a narrow body of water.

So... You gonna pick this up again, MrBenn, or is this gonna get binned? It'd be awful sad if it were the latter.

Names is a tough one, hmmm, Enhanced Asia? Great Asia? Asia of the East? Asia: The Far East, Asia

Just throwing out ideas, Asia: The Far East seems best to me.

We are still keep the original Asia map, correct?

???? - This might be my biggest stumbling block of all! To my knowledge, there's no natural metropolitan name equivalent to "Europa." And "Asia 2" is out because it signifies a revamp. "New Asia" also makes zero sense. I'm racking by brain but hoping that someone in the foundry will have the creative spark.

The map that is currently named "Asia" externally is NOT named "Asia" internally. So why not name THIS map Asia and name THAT map "Far East" (it's internal name)?

That way, everything is named consistently (what a concept). And for those of you who are thinking "But this will confuse people who know that as the Asia map"...it's confusing NOW. I was trying to find that map, knowing it only by it's internal name...and obviously, couldn't find it!

If each state will be represented by only one territorry, then "Asian States" (as opposed to Asian nations which is an entirely different thing) would seem to be most approrpiate and would not require renaming any other map, whilst keeping Asian maps together.

But that other map NEEDS to be renamed ANYWAY, so "not requiring renaming any other map" shouldn't be a significant consideration.
