16 teams of 6 will compete to see who reigns supreme in the CC Dodgeball Championship. (16 teams is my ideal, but if signups are slow, I might run the tournament with 8 teams) It's going to be 5th period gym class all over again!Tournament Format
This will be a 16-team, 4-round tournament featuring teams of 6. You can sign up a whole team of 6, a partial team, or just sign up by yourself. I'll list the full teams that sign up now and keep track of the solo and partial signups. Once there's a total of 96 players signed up I'll combine the partial and solo signups into teams, randomly. Also, feel free to sign up to reserve a spot and get back to me when you've organized your team. Once we have 16 teams I'll use random.org to make matchups. I'll do them randomly each round. EDIT: IMPORTANT CHANGE - We didn't quite get the 96 players I'd hoped for which would have set up a nice, 16 team bracket, but we did get 84 sign-ups, enough for 14 teams.
We'll have 7 first round matches. The winning 7 teams will advance to the quarterfinals, along with the losing team that eliminated the most opponents. If there is more than one losing team that eliminated the same number of opponents, we'll have some sort of tiebreaker depending on how many teams it is. Example: if 4 teams tie, we'd do an 8 player doubles game. If 5 teams tied, there'd be a 5 player standard match. 2 teams tie, we'll do an 8 player quads game.
Once we know which losing team advances, we'll have 8 quarterfinalists and from there, it will be a 8 team bracket.Who can sign up
This game load will never be more than one game at a time, so technically freemiums could play, but this tournament will be a little unpredictable as to when you will actually play (that will make sense after you read the next section), so I'd rather have just Premiums in the tournament. If a freemium is willing to keep a slot open for the length of the tournament, and this could take a while, I'll allow them in. 97% attendance is required from all participants.Game Format
At the start of each match, I'll use random.org to select 4 players from each team to play in a Quads match on a Random map. The winning team starts the dodgeball match with the ball. One of the two players who did not participate in the Quads match will throw the first ball. They will select one member of the opposing team to target and will also select a map, spoils, reinforcements and whether it will be foggy/sunny. All games will be sequential with automatic deployment.
That game will be played and if the thrower wins, his opponent is hit, eliminated, and the opposing team will be down to 5 players and will now have possession of the ball. If the target wins, these same two players will play another game with the same settings, but this time on a Random map. If the target wins again, we'll say he caught the thrower's ball and the thrower is eliminated. If the thrower wins this time, we'll say it was just a missed throw, no one is eliminated, and now the other team has possession of the ball. Games will be capped at 30 rounds. If the game does not end in 30 rounds, it will be a missed throw and the other team has possession of the ball.
This will continue until one team has been fully eliminated. The other team, including any players who may have been eliminated, will move on to the next round. When throws are completed, I will try to send PMs to players from both teams so you can know what the game situation is without having to always remember to check this threadImportant
-- Players are only allowed to throw the ball for their team every third throw. Basically, if you just threw the ball for your team, two different teammates have to throw the ball before you can throw again. The obvious exception to this rule is if your team is down to just 2 players. They will alternate throws until one is eliminated, and the person who is left will obviously take the remainder of his team's throws. At the start of each round, I will randomly select one person to be team captain for that round. Their job will be to tell me, either in a PM or in this thread, who throws the ball each time your team has it and who you are targeting from the other team. Discuss among your team who should be throwing each time and who you will be throwing at, but if you can't come to a consensus agreement, the team captain for that round has the final say.

-- I said players can only throw the ball every third throw. There is no restriction on your targets, however. You could keep throwing at the same player repeatedly until they are eliminated, or you can mix it up.
-- Each time you are throwing the ball, you do not have to pick the same map and settings as you did previously. You can, of course, but feel free to change it up each time. Maybe map rank your target and find out what his or her weak maps are.
-- Players have 48 hours to join their game. I will try to send them a reminder at the 24 hour mark. If they miss this deadline, they will lose that game. Keep your teammates accountable.
-- As it takes a while for this many people to sign up and it's tough to say exactly when the tournament will start, I will give freemiums some leniency regarding the 48 hour sign up for their first match, if they need to wait for a game to free up. After that first match however, freemiums are expected to keep one slot open for the next round's game.
-- Beta maps can be selected, but I'll be keeping an eye on the games, and if there's any kind of significant change in the map, something that affects the gameplay after a game is already started, I'll have to start a different game. I don't want anyone to get eliminated from the tournament because a beta map change screwed them up.
