Introduction Ah, the Midgard map! The name "Midgard" comes form Norse mythology and translated into English means: "Middle Earth". In 2008, the original Classic and Middle Earth maps were redesigned due to copyright concerns. Middle Earth was replaced by a map named Centerscape which had "diamonds" as regions, connected by lines, similar in nature to Classic Shapes. The game-play stayed the same, just the looks and the name changed. Midgard replaced Centerscape following an open competition to redesign the look of the map, which was won by RJBeals after a vote by the Conquer Club Community. After the redesign, again the game-play stayed the same. The original Middle Earth map was based on "The Lord of the Rings" by Tolkien and many of the region names reflect this to this day.
I know there is alot of history behind this map and I would like to include things about its evolution if possible. I need help with the details though.
Middle Earth Centerscape The revamp.
If you can help or have suggestions for me on the guide itself, please speak up. This is my first attempt at a guide. I promise not to get my feelings hurt.
“One of God's own prototypes.....never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.”
There's a strategy guide in progress right now for the Midgard map and the author is looking for historic information on the map to put in the intro, like what happened with the changes from Middle Earth to Centerscape to Midgard etc. I know it's your favorite map, and I remember seeing you reference these changes in past posts, so I figured you might know best what happened with the transformation of this map. Can you give me a rundown?
Thanks, Fenrir
Sometime, not long after I joined CC, in 2008 the maps Classic and Middle Earth were replaced because of Hasbro and copyright.
Middle Earth was replaced by the map named Centerscape which had "diamonds" as territories, connected by lines. The game play stayed the same, jsut the looks and the name changed. Later (in 2009 I think) Midgard replaced Centerscape. Again gameplay stayed the same, but now it looks more like a map again and the name changed once more. Interesting details: The name "Midgard" comes form Norse mythology and translated in English means "Middle Earth".
I assume it's common knowledge that the original Middle Earth map was based on "The Lord of the Rings" by Tolkien.

I've only played dubs. For that I'd suggest saying holding bonus regions is often decisive, so you may want to build troop stacks in important areas where you from which you can take or hold bonuses or break your opponent's bonuses, for example around Absentia, Hib City, Geolwe. I think what makes this map interesting is the way gameplay is channelled through choke points as well as the bonuses being so important. Basically emphasising that bonuses are usually decisive - but you are pretty clear anyway that that's the case.
Suggest that where you mention low region counts, you indicate how few regions they'll get for 7and 8 players.
Suggest, too, that you warn players away from assaulting neutrals for a bonus unless that bonus would be extremely buffered by other neutrals or teammates.
I'm impressed that you warn away from the Crystal Shires; not only is it 3 regions to protect, it's often the first place newer players try to hold because it looks so much like oceania or s.a. in Classic. (Try, and can't, because they're not buffered enough by neutrals or teammates. )
