Given that California has tried to split for many years, with probably better reason.. I highly doubt it.

Yeah, I heard that California tried to split into a north and south.

The social/political differences between north and south are historically huge, (though that's changing a bit, from what I understand). Plus, they each have enough population. However, the south never wanted to let go northern resources (particularly water) and the north generally wanted southern money/influence. There were other issues, but those were the biggest. Also, there was always the question of exactly where to split it. Socially, Santa Barbara is traditionally considered the dividing line between south and north, but the political dividing lines were different.
