DK's koontz-style tourney [Winner:TheTrueNorth]

Postby Dukasaur on Sun May 22, 2011 12:16 pm

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so koontz1973 should be very flattered by this tournament! It will be a no-apologies pure imitation of a koontz-style tournament!

Actually, I have a decent excuse: Game 8868826. In that game, I offered koontz a bet that the losers would create a tournament named after the winners. Well, we lost and koontz's team won, so here is my nod to koontz. (In reality, this was a subtle plot by me. I've been planning to steal koontz's ideas for a long time, and I just needed an excuse.)

Strictly speaking, the bet was just between me and koontz, but my team-mate DoomYoshi also felt bound by it, so he has also created a tourney named after his corresponding opponent in the team roster, McShanester29. If you're into Dubs play, I would definitely suggest that you check it out!

Anyway, with no further ado, here is my blatant koontz rip-off...:-)

16 players in 1v1 action will play one single round where everybody plays everybody once (therefore 15 simultaneous games) on the Random map with default (Auto, Seq, Esc, Chained, Sunny) settings, and any ties to be resolved by the much-debated koontz rule.
(Wow, it is possible to completely describe a tournament in just one sentence!) :o

For those who want it broken down into steps:
Classification: 1v1
Eligibility: Premium Only. (Beware: you will get all 15 games at once!)
Map: Random
Settings: CC default (Auto, Sequential, Escalating, Chained, Sunny)

Ties: koontz rule (see below if you need clarifications)

show: koontz rule clarifications

There! In true koontz style, I made every line a different pretty colour! (I don't do anything by half-measures, even imitations!)
:D

This will be my sixth tournament.

Ties: Person who won the 1v1 between the two who are tied. A new round-robin if more than two are involved.

This is not the same--If there is a three way tie with one player beating both the other players this signifies a clear winner and there should not be another round robin in my opinion. I just wanted to verify the intentions of your rule here. I will check back before joining.

Yes, you're right. If more than two are tied and one of them has beaten all the others then he is the clear winner. A new round only occurs if there is no clear-cut winner.

I've provisionally put you in, just in case I don't get a chance to update this again today.

mcshane got his one from doom.yoshi!

Would be fun, but I don't consider them obligated. Koontz and I were the only ones that explicitly accepted the bet.

Dukasaur, here is the rule in its entirety. I know you have the link to the rule thread but it might be nice to put it in the first post so there is no misunderstandings.

One round, everyone plays everyone in 1 on 1 matches; at the same time. Player with most wins, wins the tournament. If two players are tied the player that won the 1v1 match wins the tourney--if multiple players are tied and there is no clear head to head winner -all the players involved will play another round robin.

As HA said, it does differ from your one slightly so it might be good to decide which one you want to go with.
