if permabans were handed to all the annoying people on this site then this would be a deserted place.

heck, lack would be the first to be banned for annoying everybody with his slow updates

so i honestly don't see what the problem is.
if the winner of this competition can't handle a little more competition from a map that starts with a huge handicap (*) then he/she is not a true winner.

(*)this map starts with the draft stamp, the gameplay stamp and almost the graphic stamp, while somebody that starts fresh has to earn those stamps and attract people to get feedback.

Uh, Can I get a bonus border clarification?

Is Sepik: Wewak, Aitape, Amanab and Vanimo?

Also, is the Southern highlands only: Mendi, Tari, Koroba?

Thyanks in advance!

Just a quick thought but does Oct 22nd seem a bit soon? A full month would be better?

2 weeks for that map is more than enough.

not only you have a real region with all the general details already set but you also have a pre-made gameplay so you don't have to bother coming up with something interesting, or making borders, or even inventing names and calculating bonuses. all you have to do is draw a nice image over a pre-made draft. that's 3 hours tops if you do everything from scratch. if you take a shortcut and go for a san-francisco style map then it's an hour maximum.

Sepik has the following territories:
    1. Wewak
    2. Aitape
    3. Amanab
    4. Vanimo
    5. Telefomin
    6. Ambunti
    7. Angoram

You are correct about the Southern Highlands.

i just woke up and barely took a shower so i'd have to eat something now and i have exactly 2h:42 minutes until i have to leave and go pick my girl from kindergarden.
so it's 15:18 now (or 3:18pm). in this time i'll try to eat (5 minutes) and make a papua new guinea map.

the map is done. and since it turned out better than i expected i'll enter it in the contest so i can't show you the image. but i'm sending gimil the image via pm and he can confirm you that it is done.
also i've taken a couple of screenshots with the timestamp to prove it. also to gimil via pm.

you guys are obsessed with the epicmeals stuff. :-s

they were fun at first with the tenderloin meat house with a bacon roof and mashed potatoes on the lawn.
i'd definitely eat some of that.
but then it got old and they felt the need to increase the stupidity. like puting burgers on guns. that's neither tasty nor funny :?

that looks very good benn. indeed mountains can be a bitch sometimes.

but you know what was the most time consuming part for me?
terit names and army numbers. of the total of 2 hours and 10-15 minutes i spent something like 45 minutes just on deciding what font i should use, what effects it should have and where should i place the terit names so that army numbers would fit. and then i had to get the army numbers and place them in each terit so that all colours appear in all continents. not hard but tedious and boring as hell.

Yeah, typing out territory names can be a pain. I have the sort of typefaces I would have used in mind, but it can take a long time to pick THE one.

I've sometimes wondered what it would be like to have a mapmaking layer-sharing thing (sort of like a collaborative layer-battle) and see where we can get in a day or two...

well years ago there was a layer battle and there were various mini graphic contests.
don't know if it's been done since but it would be great to have this thing brought back.

also i'd love to see thematic speed contests. for example once a month for 6 hours (a decent time to get a map done) any map maker goes in the chat and a CA gives a theme (let's say pirates, or your neighbourhood, or gay penguins) and each person starts making the map reporting the progress every hour to the CA (a screenshot of the map to show progress). then the maps get voted and the winner is uploaded on the site. of course a lot of work is still needed to balance gameplay and perhaps even touch up graphics but that can be done while in beta.
