don't know if it's been done since but it would be great to have this thing brought back.

also i'd love to see thematic speed contests. for example once a month for 6 hours (a decent time to get a map done) any map maker goes in the chat and a CA gives a theme (let's say pirates, or your neighbourhood, or gay penguins) and each person starts making the map reporting the progress every hour to the CA (a screenshot of the map to show progress). then the maps get voted and the winner is uploaded on the site. of course a lot of work is still needed to balance gameplay and perhaps even touch up graphics but that can be done while in beta.

Absolutely no way, am I going to contribute 6 hour of my time to something like this! As cool as it sounds.

But I would like to see more ways to allow people to compete against each other. Graphical competition pushes us all to become better with our chosen programs.
What do you know about map making, bitch?

then make it 2-3 hours. and don't include the terit names as mandatory. those can be added later.
2-3 hours is not such a long time and i think of all the CA's at least 1 can be online for 2-3 hours in a row. or at least 2-3 CAs taking 1hour shifts :)

The mini and speed contests intrigue me, but the are only for experienced map makers. What takes DiM 2 hours and 15 minutes, takes me 3 times longer for half of the effect. :( But I would give it a shot if time and RL allowed. Instead of a couple of hours, how about 24. Then everyone can enter and compete in a level playing field.

Should be fun to see if we can guess each others map.

and i wish i knew all the xml stuff that you know

as for guessing the authors of each map, i used to be pretty good back when i knew every map maker. now there are so many new faces i doubt i'd guess more than 2-3.

Should be sometime Sunday when we will get to see everyone's entry.

Before then, anyone care to guess how many entries there will be.
I would guess 6.

Would be nice to have that many, and will be happy to finally get to see your 2 hour job. As I said to gimil, probably far better than my work which took a little longer. ;)

it seems my optimism was indeed unfounded. i looked at past competitions and your prediction of 6 participants seems to be right on the money. :?

I think 6 might be optimistic. Realistic number is more likely 4 or 5. Depends if 1 or 2 guys get there maps in on time.

deadline passed.

when do we get the poll?
or at least see the entries?

also don't forget to rename the files as entry1, entry2 and so on and host them on your own photobucket account otherwise if you use the links given by the participants people might get clues as to who actually designed them. and i want to guess :)

Thanks DiM, but this isn't the first time I have done this ;)

All the entries and the poll will go up sometime tomorrow. Good luck to all those that entered.

it's the first time i see you do it (i think)

at least tell us how many people entered the competition. i'm actually curious if the gloomy predictions of koontz will prove to be real or will my unfounded enthusiasm actually turns out to be true :)
