Great idea. If you make it, KORT will play their home games at the map ;)

it is not only idea unique, there are also 3 zones with 5 consecutive dead edge regions. I cannot remember if any other map has it, but I think not, so this addition also make this map good ;)

Also your neutral values seem a bit high. That is just what I think.

What do you suggest for the neutral values? Because they are auto deploy zones I thought I'd keep then higher than the normal 3. The grass is a barrier between the legs so I felt that needed to be high so you have a better chance of holding one leg instead of easily holding both.

That's interesting. The other map was last posted in May 2010.
So I don't have to read the thread what was the outcome?

Looking at the other cow map I think mine is a lot better looking and has more interesting game play elements.

Because it's been thought of before should I stop?

I'd like to make it. Perhaps I can succeed where the other map failed.

Best Wishes,
Dana

i completely agree and is there any bonus for having grass besides the obvious ;)
and fitting army numbers will be an issue

as for that other map that is pat compared to this

also the four corner borders may need adjustment

in australia it is too.

it is gardener, not gardner. btw, a gardener tends the garden and most people don't keep cows in their garden. cows are found on farms, tended to by farmers.

Great looking map, hope you stick with it! That plus two auto-deploy from the cow pat seems awfully easy to defend though, i think everyone would go for the tail right at the start.

Have you thought about having any victory objectives? I had an idea where you could win the game by holding certain cuts that are prized in different places. for example, for the American Victory you would need to hold the Prime Rib, Bottom Round, Brisket and Tenderloin for one round, while for the Chinese Victory you would need to hold the flap steak, ox tail base, short rib and tongue for one round, etc. These are just off the top of my head and it would take some research to get better examples but just thought I'd throw it out there for you.

Thanks for the feedback so far. I'm not the best speller so thanks for spotting my mistakes. In terms of the neutrals, I'll lower the auto deploy ones to 4. But I think the pat should stay fairly high, because getting that is one of the keys to winning the map.

I,ll work on an updated version tonight. Who do I need to impress to get a stamp?

I did a fair bit of research on google and tenderloin was regularly used, with the fillet almost never being mentioned. When it is mention it is a part of the tenderloin. I also found that the names varied from one source to the next.

In the end it's a game so I'm not sure that it matters that much but it's easy to change a name is need be.

Thanks for the comment.

Best wishes

15 neutrals is way too much on the grass if it's just acting as some kind of bridge, especially if it's killer neutrals.

Re: How about a COW map?

The reason I put the killer neutral of 15 in the grass is to stop people from being able to easily take both legs. That way the army that holds one leg will need to decide to I use 15 of my troops to break the neutral or go up into the rest of the body. If it was a low number you wouldn't think twice about going for the other leg and then whoever had them would probably build up fast while everyone else fights over the bigger bonuses in the body. For the game to be balanced I felt the leg bonuses needed to have a barrier that would be hard to cross at the start of the game when troop numbers are low.

I set it up that the front of the cow had the esier bonuses, while the middle had the bigger harder bonuses, with a few auto deploys stuck in there to help balance it.

I would imagine in a fog of war game it would be a tense game, because you wouldn't be sure how much was in the other leg, a bit like the killer neutrals in Das Schloss.

Another key spot would be the tail, however it only gives 1 bonus so although easy to hold with one choke point you wouldn't be getting a lot for it. The main benefit of the tail is that it leads to the 2+ autodeploy Cow Pat which can build up quietly without the hind hoof being able to see it. And if you only had the cow pat you would not know how big an army was waiting to drop on you from the tail.

In a fog of war game I think this could be a lot of fun.

Anyway, right or wrong that's my thinking.

Best Wishes,
Dana
