Great gameplay. now that I play it though I think that the podium should have a greater bonus because it is so key to the game

Do you need an excuse to have a war? I mean, who for? Can't you just say "You got lots of cash and land, but I've got a big sword, so divy up right now, chop chop."

The bonuses are rather wonky aren't they... some continents are getting more than they should. Currently the statistics stand at:

Continent - No. of Territories/No. of Countries to Defend : Current Bonus
Democrats - 14/4 : 7
Republicans - 14/4 : 7
Print Media - 6/3 : 3
TV Media - 6/3 : 3
Liberal Lobby - 8/3 : 4
Conservative Lobby - 8/3 : 4
Podium - 9/3 : 6

First of all I think bonus for Podium is too much. The only difference between the lobbies and Podium is 1 territory, and yet there is 2 more bonus for Podium. Even the Medias have 2 less than the Lobbies, and are getting 1 less than the Lobbies. Perhaps Podium should be reduced to bonus 5?

Also, the current bonus for the Parties are only 1 more than the Podium. Considering that there are 5 more territories and 1 more country to defend, the difference in bonus should be larger. Also considering the difference between the figures of the other continents and their bonuses, the gap between the Parties' bonus and the Podium's bonus should be definitely more than 1...

But in the end it's still up to the creater, so I'll leave it up to you.

I think the idea is that the podium SHOULD be more important. It's more central to the map than other areas and in real life it commands more power. So the same is true for the map. You just have to treat someone with the podium as more of a threat than people with other continents.

Yes, I know that in real life the Podium is more important. But this isn't real life and if all maps did follow real life, Chinese Checkers map would also allow people to attack territories 2 spaces away in a straight line to imitate the 'jumping' movements, but it doesn't, because it does not abide to the rules of real life chinese checkers. Likewise, why should this map abide to the superiority which is present in real life?

I wouldn't really consider the podium as the central area of the map...especially since the 2 parties seem to be as close to the center as the podium is. In fact, the rough center of the map is where S. Floor, Tom and Ron all meet, so they share the central area.

Also, if the podium was supposed to be a continent where the holder is threatening, the bonus would be even larger.

because that is what makes the gameplay interesting, if everywhere had 'perfect' bonuses there would be no interret but as people are scrapping for the podium as it is important it makes the map more interesting, not every map is a classic map.

My point is that the bonus should be fair and proportionate. Yes, people would be scrambling for the podium, but one has to consider that in the game, not everyone can go for the podium. So if that single territory has more bonus and is easier to get, but the player can't get it for the simple reason that he has no territories there, he's gonna lose out.

Is not "Fundamentalist" supposed to be "Fundamentalism"? Fundamentalist is one that holds that philosophy, but fundamentalism is the philosophy as a whole.

@ the comment about the podium:

Looking at it statisticaly, yes it probably should be reduced. However youre not taking into account that it is central in the map, and is in many ways a bad place to take as you'll get wedged between other players. Continents in corners are better than those in the middle. I think the bonus is therefore quite fair.

Both or even just one side of the house and the podium together is godlike, the number of territories you have to defend barely goes up.
Warning: You may be reading a really old topic.

U.S. Senate XML error.

Postby Gilligan on Fri Apr 13, 2007 5:32 am

It says Pete can border Mary. I didn't have a path connecting them, but I could still fortify there. Then I checked the XML, and it says you can attack Pete to Mary. They clearly do not border.

Game Number: 351049
I have Mary and Pete.
Rynn has Lola.
Sean21us has Tim.
Last Stand has ABC.
Sean21us has Jane.

So how could I have fortified there if Pete is surrounded by opponents?
