I think you need to redefine what you think "remake" is. Ever heard of Joseph Cambell? Nothing you have ever watched or read is completely original.

As for remakes proper, adaptations and such are ok by me, especially if they take a different turn on the story (e.g Blade Runner vs. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?)

I was tempted to mention "The Hero with a Thousand Faces" too, until I remembered the video. It's worth watching all of the parts if you get time. It's not without its flaws, but it's cleverly put together.
