I would disagree with this. Some deployment and dice can overrule good strategy, but I don't think that most maps on 1v1 are dependent on that. If they are dependent on anything outside of strategy, it is mostly turn order.

Its true...i forget to mention turn order.
Off course that are "special" maps that if u are an expert in it ,u can fool a few players...ive been fooled a lot, its normal and sure its strategy.

But most of the maps on 1vs are basically get the bonus and weaken the other player...and it happens that more than 50% of my games were decided by those factors .
Im not complaining about being unlucky..it just happens to me, both ways, and in a LOT of maps if that u start with a good force in certain areas U will NOT loose...unless the other player have super dice and u have those ridiculous rolls.

I agree with Armandolas. 6-8 player games is where it's at, with the caveat that you play players at around your rank or higher. The potential to gain points is much higher there than 1v1 games.

Tournaments are good places to find games filled with better players.

Play private games with people you know will not make reckless moves and thus cost you the game or ruin the game.

I think you are on the right track, having several goals that work well together, to have fun, learn and bond and win. =D>

Some suggestions:

1) Try different combos of maps and settings while you are still a relative newby/low ranked. . That includes trying maps as speed v casual fog v sunny, adjacent, chained unlimited and the new fort trench, as well as assassin, terminator, standard, standard multiplayer games, doubs trips quads as well as "pure" one on one. After a while you will start to find your niches,(plural ;) ) maps and settings you enjoy playing and you win on, gain points on and a lot of the experience and skills are transferable. .e.g Classic style maps with no spoils, fog.. You don;t need a great won/loss record as a newby/low rank to gain points as you learn, so long as most of your opponents are roughly the same rank or higher, so this is a good tie to learn. . When you get higher ranked, say captain or above, you start to risk losing more points than you gain when you play unfamiliar new maps and settings with lower ranked players who know what they are doing, so many high rankers stop learning and stick to what they know.

2) Most clans and friendly teams value somebody lower ranked players who are wiling to serve as a student, Your low rank means a win for the team is worth more in terms of points to gain when the team wins and less points to lose when the team loses . .While it might be fair to start that way, don't get stuck on always being just a stacker on the higher rank or a "spear carrier" who just blinds does what he is told and never gets to offer suggestions to the more experienced player. If you take the time and smarts to come out with a good plan for your move or your team mates' move, it should be treated with respect. Some ties you should get to carry the stack. lead the attack.AFter a while you become more of an equal team mate and can give back to others, be a teacher yourself.

3) Learn to use the tools particularly BoB
2 of the most used added functionalities are the statistics table and the Map Inspect.
The statistics-table is created from the logs, it shows for example how many armies someone received last time they started a turn. It also calculates how many territories everyone has in a fog-game.
The map inspect-feature makes it possible to highlight some territories on the screen, for example to check which territories could give you a bonus. Highlighting is done by hovering over certain elements:
players/teams in the statistics-table or on the right: highlight all territories of this player/team.
card: highlight territory belonging to this card.
Bonus/'continent' in the statistics-table or on the right (if enabled): Highlight all territories belonging to this bonus (if you need 5 out of 9, it will highlight all 9 territories).
Territories on the map: Highlight (with a certain convention) the territories that border this territory.
6 different options atm: Border (2-way attack), attack-only, defend-only, bombard, bombarded by, mutual bombard

3) What really works for me is playing as a team with a core group of people on a particular map and setting and communicating, having fun, learning and bonding and winning,.

I have picked up 633 points on First Nations America and have a win record over 60%. Most of those points have come from our Whom or What signature map- FNA,quads sunny no spoils unlimited forts. I am looking for a core group, say half a dozen, WoW or Spelunkers, willing to play this map and settings to have fun, learn and bond and win. I believee in brains, and chemistry.communication is key. I am willing to play colloborative with a dash of me team captain.

PM or post.

Thank your for your consideration.

I am of the opinion that if you specialize then you become good at that game map and style and increase your points/rank that way. Once you have mastered one way of playing then you will be able to play better a variety of different game maps and settings. But specialize first.

There is a saying that, "easy come, easy go." (But that which comes with time and patience is hard to lose.) - Emphasize mine or I said that.

Knowing the secrets of the Strategies to success is what increases points and Ranks and that takes time to learn. And there is a lot to learn.
