coming 2nd in a Premier event is worth 20% more than winning it

Similarly those knocked out in quarter finals will each have the points for 4th place etc.

they should be 5th as 4 players have advanced to the semis.

Well, there are several ways of doing it. Really, in my view, the best way is to add up all the points resulting from 3rd and 4th place, divide by 2 to give to each player - and so on down the scoresheet.

Actually, looking through the 13 completed tournaments there are disparities between them according to number of players and type of tournament - some players can get a lot of points from being knocked out in the first round of some tournaments. Perhaps for next year we need to have a total number of points per type of tournament and allocate them to the lower places according to a simple arithmetic formula according to the number of players and levels within the game.

If they are eliminated in the quarterfinals, it should be divided between 5-8, not 3-4.

Can I propose that, for a standard tournament knock-out, we have:
1st 500
2nd 300
3rd & 4th (210 + 150)/2 = 180
5th to 8th (120+95+80+65)/4 = 90
etc.

If we are happy with that I'll amend as necessary.

I have now amended the above scoring rules and reflected the changes in the results spreadsheet - the individual tournament scores now look a lot more sensible! Note that I have rounded up fractional scores.

All players names are in lower case to reduce the possibility of duplication of names that are slightly different. However there are three players (traffic133, rjhankey and mwaser) whose names are duplicated, so their scores will not show up correctly until the next tournament is added.

you are missing the rule regarding how many tournaments count toward the final score

In an effort to make the TPA less all-consuming we've revamped the scoring for year 2. As with Year 1 there will be 52 events that you can enter, however, unlike Year 1, you won't really need to enter all 52 to score well. Here's how we're going to work it.

There will be 4 major events (one each quarter). These are the Grand Slam events of the TPA and as such, any serious contender should join them. Each of these will count for your scores
There will be 16 Premier events. (four each quarter). Your best 8 scores in the Premier events will count on the TPA scoreboard. (you may enter more or less but only the top 8 scores will count.
Finally there will be 32 Regular events. Your best 16 Regular tournament scores will count on the TPA scoreboard.

Thus, there are a maximum of 28 tournaments counting on your TPA scoreboard.

I have added that clarification under "Schedule". I'll have to work out a way of automating that I guess!

The planned finish of the tournament was in a week or so, so we won't be starting any new tournaments. Of the 45 though, the best 28 still gives plenty of scope.

Just thinking ahead to TPA3, I would be grateful of your views on a few things that I have been thinking about.

It is perhaps a good idea to have a break over the Northern Hemisphere summer period, so perhaps starting on the first Monday in September (3rd) and running through to the end of June. This gives the advantages of a break when many would be away anyway and also a natural break between tournaments to allow many to finish ahead of a new season.

If we had 44 tournaments therefore which would encompass 4 Majors, 16 Premier and 24 Standard tournaments divided equally into 4 sets of 11 games - with the same rules giving a maximum of 28 tournaments to count per player.

I think that the scoring needs some revision. For instance should players get points for joining but not winning any games? It probably does not matter, for their small score would be unlikely to count unless it was in a Major.

Should the points tables reflect number of games won to differentiate players who are knocked out at the same level of a tournament?

Your views on the above and other issues are welcomed!

thanks dave for saving a tourney that so many are participating in and looking forward to...a huge job indeed.
Let us know what we can do to help (as TO's of the tourneys within the TPA).

Thanks guys! In fact I have now written a few VBA programmes for it so it's not that much work. As soon as a TO sends a result with players names and positions I can convert it to points by running one routine and then add it to the master scoresheet by running a second. Any work is only if I have to wade through the tournament statistics to get to a full player and position list- so that's one thing that TO's can do to make it easier for me!

Another thing is to prepare for a September start for TPA3! I was thinking of 44 tournaments (to finish end of June 2013 similar to this year) - depending on any feed back I get of course.

I'll try and get into TPA Year 1 over the next week or so so that I can easily update it with the final few results and report in the newsletters on progress in both tournaments.

Thanks Angola - quite a challenge but enjoying it!

Year 1 results have been updated with the last three tournaments to finish and can be accessed from:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0AhVfEnhd4J0cdGxMT3VOQjhpdkp2Z2hPVG9QeDVkckE&output=html

It is too large a file to display all the individual; results as well, so the individual results will be on the following (not propogated fully yet):

Darin44's tournament "Eliminate Yourself" is open for entry:

I have assigned it to week 37 rather than week 41 to which it was originally assigned.

Some of the longer tournaments have started finishing, which has lifted me in the ranks a bit. Swifte has also done well though so which tournaments are left, and are there likely to be any changes to the overall top 3?
