It will depend on what types of games you're playing. For example, I consider myself a fairly solid player who likes to mix up maps and settings. I join a fair share of tournaments and also have multiple groups of people that I like to play with whether it's dubs, trips or quads. I have a couple go to maps that I know I'll gain points on, but I don't like to have too many games of the same type going on at a time. I don't think that I'm in danger of losing these swords anytime soon, but I know that it's going to be awhile before I'll hold on to a hat for any extended period of time. So for my style of play, I'd say it gets "hard" for me to hold on to my rank at colonel. If I played exclusively 1 v 1 games on my strongest maps, it would probably start getting hard much higher than that.

Are you sure about the final part of your post,I think a Major playing 1v1 is equivalent to at least a Colonel playing multiple games, would take a lot of proving either way.

I think it would be hard to keep major playing 1v1 games if you weren't somewhat judicious about the games you joined. However, what I was saying was that if I played all 1 v 1, but further limited to certain maps and settings (i.e. was very careful about the games I joined), I could hold colonel just playing 1 v 1.

From personal experience, it seems that world 2.1 can preserve a low major and foggy peloponesian war can preserve a specialized colonel. Hive can do much better of course. Simple maps like classic will not allow you to hold on even trivial standings like 1700 points.

I was about to say, "Kaskavel knows that from experience." LOL

But I agree. It goes back to what someone said before ... it depends on maps and settings (and of course your skill level)

I think you should be on this site for fun.....and I can have fun playing the highest pointed player or the lowest...no matter what map/no matter what settings....life's too short...and if you really worry about such things....I think you've missed the whole point of life, and better get yourself one. :)

In my opinion, find a map with the settings that will get you points. For example... Mine is Mexico. I have a recent record of like 19-1 on that map... I know how to play it. And when I lost games & points, that has always been there for me to regain them, little bit by bit.

Personally, I would almost prefer to do away with ranks - but that wouldn't be much fun in such a competitive game, no would it? :D

I hardly ever join public games filled with new people anymore. Why? I usually get targeted at some point for being a higher ranked player in the game. I can usually win if someone doesn't suicide on me (which usually happens in those games I find... especially when I run my mouth  ). But many times, you're targeted right out of the gate for being higher ranked in a relatively low ranked game.

Depends on what type of games you enjoy playing. And how talented you are. But around Major usually. I made it to Colonel without being concerned with what games I played, but in retrospect I can say that those games were not the standard type of games.

I think it also works the other way around. People will target low ranks because you'll lose far more points losing to a cook than a colonel.

not necessarily, just find a really good map you are strong in. I was able to hold rank in the 4000s for awhile on waterloo until losing just became waay too much.

I would object a little bit there. I think thats a bit pesimistic. Playing against all comers, it is posible to hold 2500+ with 6 player esc. Problem is people tend to make a lot of 8 player games. Hard to get a win % too far away from 12.5% in those, at least in my experience. 6 player esc is the one the society of cooks specialise in so in principle anyone can learn the basicsl on those settings. As well as being a good setting for earning your swords/hat and occasionally brig, I think it is more entertaining than 8 because there is more blocking and ducking and diving.

It is not possible to get the big kill ratio like you can on a map like waterloo, but it is far from being a complete lottery.

I do not disagree. I was refering to 1 vs 1 games.

I just lost my star after having it for 2 months, and I have had between 80 and 100 active games for the last 3-4 months, and I play all kinds of games, lots of single player tourneys against low ranked players, and somehow I managed to keep my rank for so long, hell I even was at 6. place on the scoreboard for a week and topp 10 for 2, but I was running crazy good in those tourneys I just talked about, but a 8man esc win gave me just 50-60 points, and a loss would give me the same :P

but anyhow back to the topic, I guees there are many ways to hold youre rank, probably the best way would be to specialize in a couple of maps and just play them (but that would atleast ruin CC for me), another is to only play against players around youre rank..

it is actually what is thought in the academy. targed the rich guy for his points (in terminator) but outside terminator it happens to.
i hold major bars quite easely these days , and i love 1vs1. I have come to think of them as my baseline.
when i get serious about this trench medal i might loose a bit more then usual, although so far, i tend to love it!

I agree. Maybe if the high ranking player has a bad attitude or maybe if he's in an extremely strong position it is possible though.

Anyway currently I'm maintaining lieutenant really well. It's been over 3-4 months I think and I do mostly casual 1v1s. I play feudal, aors, das scloss, poland, etc. but previously I did play a lot of fs doodle. And I accept most maps and settings on live chat. When I was premium playing speed fs I maintained a low major pretty easily, which I consider pretty decent; and this brings me to my point.

As most mention, playing 1v1s won't get you very far but I believe if you inject freestyle, especially while playing speeders, you'll be able to maintain a pretty high rank. FS eliminates a lot of the luck and places a lot more emphasis on strategy, sometimes changing the entire way the game's played. This allows people to maintain high ranks even on simple maps like classic especially if you're fast enough.

EDIT: Sorry if this is gravedigging was searching for something else and didn't see the timestamps XD
