The two games won't work with each other.

No but you can go f*ck yourself with either.

Good, because that game seems pretty fucking boring.

Your mom seems pretty boring.

Until quite recently, spider silk had the highest tensile strength of any substance known to man, and the name Silksteel pays homage to the arachnid for good reason.

Peacekeepers suck. It's all about the Hive or the Gaians for me. Sometimes the University.

Playing as Gaia is a form of Game Abuse.

It does make it super easy...but it's so fun to overrun your neighbors with captured mindworms.

Any Ideas?

With this in mind, is it possible to play Civ IV as PBEM? Because at least Civ 4 has the Advance Start option so that we could start out a little better and could skip the beginning part when there is nothing to do. I guess the con to this would be that the only way to get Civ4 without buying it is with torrents, and not everybody is comfortable using those.

Not everyone has a computer powerful enough either. I still use Win98.

Speaking of the newer versions of Civ, just so everyone knows, Civilization V is on sale on Steam right now for $7 and the newest expansion (Gods & Kings) is on sale for $7 also. So for $14 you can get the newest version of the Civilization series. That's 75% off, so you can't beat it (besides pirating, of course).

I've played almost every version of Civilization right from Civ1 through to Civ Alpha Centurai, Free Civ, and all the rest...I've never regretted getting them. If you figure out how many hours you spend playing them and take into account the price of the game, it's about the cheapest form of entertainment out there. Actually, Civilization has been assigned as homework at some colleges, so it's educational too! I'll have to dig around and try to find the link to the article about that...

Ok. Let's get this started sooner rather than later before we lost interest. I suggest we play the Civ-Life! Scenario. It's one of the few that I haven't played to death. It's very similar to the original (if I remember correctly) but the units are all microorganisms. So us scenario junkies still get new graphics, but the old fogeys still get the same classic gameplay. Also, unless anyone here is familiar with the scenario, we will all start with the same "wow, everything is new" handicap.

I was going to wait until more people join but if those who are already in it want it started then that's fine.

What do you think about the scenario choice?

I downloaded the game from the link but it keeps on jamming...anyone else having similar problems? When starting a new game, it jams as soon as I try to build a city and in multiplayer I can't choose a screen name (it's stuck on "Titan").

I guess I don't have a problem playing a scenario, but I'd rather just play the regular game if we can.

Either way though, I'm fine starting it now or waiting until we get more people.

It's part of the Best of the Net 2 Collection. Basically, it's a normal game but there has a total graphic conversion into things like bacteria.

I realized I was being silly when I said we might lose interest. If we have waited 16 years for this game, we can probably wait a few more months until we have 7 players (or does civ allow 8?).

Oh, speaking of Civ2 scenarios...Has anybody ever played Brown Man's Burden?

It's a great scenario about the colonization of Africa. Playing the Dark Continent map here makes me want to play that scenario...

No, I never really got into the downloading. I had plenty of fun with the ones that came with Gold Edition.

You really should try some of them out. A lot of them suck, but there are some real gems in there too.

I'm provisionally in, but I have some questions that need answering.

(1) Where can I download Civ II?
(2) What are the game settings (so I can practice)?
(3) Any rules regarding how long between turns?

AoG, you suck at math. We have 9 players now. X never confirmed, bringing us down to 8. We may have to go with FreeCiv, after all.

Whoops, I never actually bothered to count. I would be down for freeciv as long as it's the same gameplay.
