Arama86n's WWI Experience [CANCELED]

Postby Arama86n on Tue Dec 04, 2012 4:37 pm

Cancelled due to lack of interest :(

Disclaimer; Read through thread properly before signing up, there are some frustrating settings involved. On the other hand, a fine opportunity to work on those medals you usually ignore ;)

Requirements;
100+ games played
Premium
1400+ score
No whining. Life is unfair, and this tourney isn't going to be any different...

Theme:
All war is hell. Unimaginable for us that have not served. Some instances stand out in history as more horrendous than most though, and the trenches of the western front must be up there among the most horrible places the human race has ever been. That anyone came out of that artillery crater with a shred of sanity is beyond belief.

Structure;
You will be divided up into five groups of 6 players to play a string of 6player nuclear spoils games (artillery) on increasingly difficult settings as the tourney moves on. The first player in every group to win five games will land themselves a seat in the final. In the first round you will play three games, after that two games will be sent each round until someone in your group reaches 4 wins, after that only one game/round. more details below.

Round 1:
Gallipoli, Turkey, April 25th 1915, mid-day. you are part of the British landing force storming ashore. Shells are flying, and grunts are bleeding. I hope you're up for it, because this fun in the sun is only the warm up...Manoeuvrability is good, engage the enemy and take him out.
Number of Games; 3
Map; WWI Ottoman Empire
Standard, Seq, Nuclear, Chained, Sunny, non-trench, 30 round limit.

Round 2:
Gallipoli, Turkey, April 27th 1915, Dusk.
Put a bandage on that arm, and dig that foxhole a little deeper, The sun is fading and the Turks are counter attacking! Will you live to see morning?

Number of games: 2
Map: WWI Ottoman Empire
Terminator, Seq, Nuclear, adjacent, Foggy, non-Trench, 30 round limit

Round 3: (and onwards)
Peronne, France, January 1917. After spending some time in a military hospital for wounds sustained on the eastern front you are shipped off to your next holiday destination, the trenches of the western front. Unfortunately you missed out on the battle of the Somme, but put that British sunny disposition to work, with 57,000 spare foxholes, you don't need to dig your own.
But as you reflect over the fact that the German artillery doesn't seem to be getting any less accurate, the rats any friendlier, the food any more plentiful, nor the mud any more confortable...

Number of games: 2 (or 1)
Map: Trench Warfare
Terminator, Seq, Nuclear, Adjacent, Foggy, Trench, 30 round limit.

two games will be sent per round until someone in your group reaches 4 wins, after that 1 game per round until someone reaches 5 wins and thus a seat in the final, at which point the rest of the group is eliminated.

FINAL
Western Front, late 1917, exact location unknown.
You are cold, oh so cold, hungry, disorientated. The mud you once despised is frozen rock solid, your comrades gone, even the rats seem to have fled. You've got no food, and no ammunition, and the snow just won't stop falling, nor the German shells for that matter... you hear footsteps and grip your bayonet harder.
You made it to the final, congratulations. Welcome to hell. It's raining nukes as usual, you can't see a thing, manoeuvrability is minimal, and four of CC's finest are out there in the fog with bayonets looking for your exposed back... Kill or be killed, last man standing gets a shiny medal, gl.
Map: Trench Warfare
Terminator, Seq, Nuclear, Adjacent, Foggy, Trench, 50 round limit.

Other information;
* No reserves, if someone doesn't accept invitation then the game will be remade without that player (and they will be eliminated from the tourney)

In please! Glad to see more WWI tournaments lately!

Incidentally, you specified settings for the final but not the actual map. I'm in regardless, but is it just more Trench Warfare or is there some relief in sight? Would sure be nice to see some Europe 1914 in this! :)

Nice catch Dukasaur. I regret to inform you there will be no relief ;) Trench Warfare in the final too.
If the tourney is fun I'll definitely make a second edition, I'll include Europe 1914 next time. I also hope Cairns new map Gallipoli is ready by then :twisted:, that'll make an unpleasant replacement for WWI Ottoman Empire for the early rounds.

upted btw, 9/30

That makes it 13/30. I'm cosidering cutting the field from 30 to 20 players. We'll give it another week and see if things pick up after the holidays now.

It took me a month to find 14/30, I think we can assume I won't find another 16 in five days.
I thought this was a cool idea, apparently not enough people agree, so be it. CANCELLED.
