Working on it now.

Currently I have the 8 Cities as starting positions with each player receiving one, and the others being neutral. So in 1v1 games players will start with 1 each, and the other 6 will be neutral, and in 8 player games each player will have 1. Koontz and I worked this out a while back, and I think it works really well for making the cities a playable option in all game types. Does that work for you?

Yeah, I really like this. n2 or n3?

V.J. wrote:Here are the starting positions and neutrals we came up with(this includes 1 city per player):

In 2 Player game 10 fields each and that's 20 total
3p = 8 each = 24 total
4p = 8 each = 32 total
5p = 6 each = 30 total
6p = 6 each = 32 total
7p = 4 each = 28 total
8p = 4 each = 32 total

3 hard coded neutral fields would be:
"bei ping west" because it could be a starting bonus for someone that gets the City next to it. Other two "Liang North" and "Nanman" are again going make it harder to get +2 bonus.

And to prevent a bonus being dropped. You guys are on the ball! =D>

Awesome, this is going to be a good map for sure. What do you think about this? I was thinking n3 but only until you said n2, which makes it interesting.

Thanks swimmerdude! We're pretty excited about this one as well.

I'm not sure I mentioned it, but the OP has been updated with the 888 and Starting Neutral version. It's right under the current map version.

Really like this map. Too many maps are over complicating, so it's nice to see one I have a genuine interest in kept simple for those of us who are more casual players.
Well balanced and looks good. The major cities are a nice addition to add a new dimension yet not over complicate matters.

Thanks so much sam. You were instrumental in helping develop the original idea, so I'm really glad you like what I've done with it.

Seems to me that Yueh-Sui could be broken up into 2 territories. That could give the region 3 border's rather than 2. You could bump the bonus up to +3 and make the Green Shu Kingdom more of a contender compared to the other 2 Kingdoms. Also it wouldn't change the number of borders for a player who's focusing on capturing the entire Shu Kingdom.

CURRENT UPDATE INFO - 2013-01-23:
- Split Yueh-Sui into two terts, which was something I had been looking at for awhile, but was confirmed by bison kings comment. It had come up in the original thread, but for some reason gimil was against splitting it.
- Updated the tert count info at the top of the OP, can someone take a look and make sure it all adds up and makes sense based on the updated v4.0 with 888's and starting neutrals below? Do any more terts need to be coded neutral, etc.?

I'm going to go ahead and sticky this for a couple days (probably until after the weekend) as the gameplay looks solid.

If anybody has any issues regarding Gameplay, now is the time to speak up. Otherwise, this will be stamped in a few days.

Seamus, cannot remember, but what neutrals did you decide on for the cities? Are they 3 as well like the capitals?

Currently they are n3, but I'm open to thoughts either way, n3 or n2.

I think you should probably run with n2, since nobody will ever start with more than 1. Can you update this in the first post?

Wow. Nice. I would ask for this map here.

The Three Kingdoms(San Guo) is the name of an "AGE" of the Chinese history populated by the most bravest, smartest and badassests heroes of all time.

There's a book called Romance of the Three Kingdoms(san guó zhi) which is a mix of ancient history and romance itself. It's kind of a huge book(about 3.000 pages) full of dids of intelligence(Zhuge Liang is the most fucking strategic bastard of all times and Guan Yu is so bold he's revered today as a god in some regions, bold to the point a doctor would cut his meat and clean his bone with a blade while he plays chess calmly) but I think it's a must read for anyone who's slightly interested in strategies. There's also the Records of Three Kingdoms which is the history de facto.

Conditions to win(if applied) could be by having most cities but not by commercial routes. Commercial routes where opened and were of importance at the time and these routes are still active today basically 18 centuries later but the deciding factor was always the war and the commercial routes only reflected the wars and the power shifted caused by the wars.
And the history itself only ends in the book when all the kingdoms are united again under a lord.
The book has it's 3000 pages but he starts and ends with the same paragraph.

There could be a bigger version of the map. There are lots and lots of cities at the book and at the maps

Good stuff, I'm glad you like the map. Maybe we should ask for map soundtracks for the next "update". :lol:

skychaser, you are correct, what an amazing time period, and some of the most important writings in history. I would love to make a larger map featuring the battles and wars, this one though is meant to be a simple representation of the Kingdoms, which is what I feel a lot of players are looking for these days. I would love to see any maps or ideas you have though.

Thanks again guys, keep the feedback coming.

I think Shu is a good name however Shu-Han would be more suitable to the western region. Liu Bei conquered it as the means of preserving the Han dynasty so that's why the name for.

There's a lot of battles that can be made into maps. Red Cliff as an example would be a good naval battle map.

+1

Nothing better than trapping Dong Zhou in a corner and setting fire to him, and watching him roast while he tries to charge his way out!
