None of the above. I'm thinking fort macmurray cold, which hits -30C by November.

I understand that in England, you think those temperatures are extreme. I am at the same latitude as Rome, and it is -20 minimum this time of year.

Around 20 it starts to feel really cold outside. Anything above that is livable. After a minor frost wave(is that a thing) it got up to almost 20 after being in the single digits for a few days, and it felt outright balmy.

Its all relative though, and I work outside in almost everything, but at 20 and below it starts to be a problem.

I can't give you a simple answer; I really have a relative thermometer.

Now when I lived in Key West, the locals there would say "It's freezing" when the weather hit 60 (F). I even saw one wear a full fur coat to an event when the temperature was 58 (F) that night.

For me, 50 can be a bit cold
But 40 enters another zone for me and it's a bit warm
Then 30 gets to be just right
And 20 gets to be a bit cold; except when it's not
And then it gets down to 10 being cold.

I voted 32 f....mild weather here in western oregon....20 to 100 range. In kauai (been there a bunch) the locals bundle up at 65 f....lol. Hunting its 0 to 30 f and perfect for humping up and down hills all day.

Fave weather is clear and around 40 f.....above 75 f I hate it.....humidity sucks too ;o)

The thing is when you live in HK and it gets to 7 there is no escape from it, the houses aren't built for it and the humidity is quite high. I remember 15 years back and when it hit seven, like 70 people died.

You say move to Hong Kong cause it dont get below 10 deg C but I doubt many of you more northern types showing off about how you can easily tough out -10 ("takes -20 for me to worry") would seriously struggle with the other side of the equation: the humid heat is extremly uncomfortable.

I've lived in New England my entire life and while 20 degrees is quite comfortable for me, -20 sucks ass, especially in a country setting. I'm actually much more comfortable in Florida in the middle of the summer(my uncle lives down there) but the congestion of people gets to me. My agreement with extreme hot weather as opposed to cold probably has to a lot to do with my being a pretty skinny person but most people I know who have grown up in New England are indeed miserable when it gets really hot and humid so for the most part I agree with your statement Lootifer.

Yeh, from what I can tell people adjust to their climates.

Where I live we have quite a narrow range so we are pretty intolerant of both ends of the spectrum, compared to north-central US, for example, where you get both very high highs and very low lows are likely far more tolerant. Likewise, very northern (or southern..) folk will be able to handle cold weather much better than hot, and people closer to the equator the opposite applies.

Is that with or without windchill? Without, about 5 degrees F, I'm in shorts, tennis shoes, a medium jacket, and a ball cap. With windchill, I throw on some long pants, a heavier coat, maybe some boots, and a winter hat (gloves are optional). Plus windchill, especially when you get 40-50 mph gusts when it's already below 0 F, can really suck balls.

Caveat - All temperatures in Farenheit because f*ck you, I'm American.

In the beginning of fall, if it goes from 70 or 80 degrees to 50 or 45 degrees, I will say "f*ck, it's cold." However, as time goes on, I'm used to the 40 degree to 50 degree weather. When winter hits and it goes down to the 30s or 20s, I will say "f*ck, it's cold."

As an example, it's about 35 degrees right now. I was fine with that. I did not say, "f*ck, it's cold." But that's because two days ago it was 9 degrees when I got into my car to drive to work.

I'm posting in Celsius (NOT CENTIGRADE!!!) just so you Americans can learn it. I am very comfortable in both scales as Canada switched to metric when I was 10. Through my work, I actually deal predominately in the imperial scale.

Concerning heat, I would rather -20C than +30C with high humidity.

+1

I fuckin' hate heat.
First of all, cold is much easier to counter, there's all sort of stuff you can easily do in normal situations to heat yourself. If it's hot and you don't have AC, that's it, you're screwed.
Second, heat is not conductive to boozing. In the cold things like mulled wine or grog are awesome. If it's like 40C, you're sweating like crazy and you have a nasty sunburn the best you can probably do is numb yourself with cheap beer.

In conclusion, f*ck heat.

Living in Louisiana i have to agree. Heat sux. The heat down here will kill you quicker than any subzero blizzards up north. Also, freezing to death is relatively benign - you just go to sleep - while dying of heat stroke/exhaustion is a horrible (and embarrassing) way to go.

Somewhere around 0° F is when I start to recognize that it's genuinely cold. Then again, my place is usually about 60° F in the winter and it feels fine to me. Other people will wear jackets when they're over. I guess I'm just used to cold weather.
