Is this inappropriate use of chatbox and diplomacy?

Postby inchul64 on Thu Feb 07, 2013 5:35 pm

Hello,

An interesting concern was brought up to me by someone I am playing against. He wrote this nice comment on my wall (i'm not being sarcastic). I felt he was addressing an issue he had with me in a very civil way. I will just re-post it so I don't distort what he said. The game # is 12239573

Here is his post on my wall:

Just to make this clear: I don´t have anything against you and there is no need to discuss this issue. It is clear you want to beat me and I want to win, too. However I felt it really inapropiate to interfere in negotiations between others and this is why I teased you a bit afterwards. The Shoutbox is the only legal way to build alliances / just a truce. Unlike Diplomacy you cannot make secret alliances. You would hardly enjoy it when I spam in the SB now;-)

So if we meet again for a rematch, I would like to see you staying quiet when I want to build an alliance with other players. Otherwise I enjoy your presence in the game, as you are in my opinion a versatile player and open to negotiations. Thank you.

I'd like to ask the moderators and other experienced players what they think of this. I don't want to be doing anything inappropriate, so if trying to break alliances in the chatbox is wrong, I would like to know so I don't do it again.

Game 12239573

You can pretty much say whatever you want to in chat. If you want to break up people's alliances or influence them, that is perfectly fine to do. He is just upset because he wanted to be able to do whatever he wanted without other things being said.

Keep it up.

I think you did nothing wrong. Get in there and mess up his game... but I do think it is important that you make sure he realizes that it is part of the game, or he gonna get in some fights in the future.
I think you both handled it very well, it is nice to know there are mature players here.

What did he mean by this:. "You would hardly enjoy it when I spam in the SB now;-)"

Hello, I was the other player who felt it was inapropiate. Thanks for the clarification.

What I meant when I wrote the sentence ("You would hardly enjoy it when I spam in the SB now;-)") was that I played a game where a user kept writing in the SB things that were not related to the game - all the time. As a result of it, proposals of alliance/truce were not being read anymore, because it was annoying and everyone stopped reading the SB. This might be why I felt stronger about Inchul64s behaviour than he really deserved.

two players having a civil disagreement. :o

preventing truces that do not benefit you is as much a part of diplomacy as making truces.

keep up the good work. =D>

Hello..I'd bet the farm CMetternich is talking about me.don't be shy.He tried the same trick on us(game 12035159)..inchul64..He had an overwhelming lead in the game.Tried to get green/blue to join him to take out me(pink)and yellow, with just a handful of territories between us.My plan of BLAH BLAHING worked perfectly(I guess the first times the charm).Yellow caught on quick. But to say no one read it,even he chimed in.I'd write a novel to disrupt alliances HA!HA!HA!..ConfederateSS....out!!!!!!!
