What exactly do spoils do?

Postby DawudBeale on Thu Apr 25, 2013 7:59 pm

Hi everyone, newbie here, I have looked through the rules and Im still not exactly clear what spoils do. I know they give you some sort of troop boost but not sure how that works exactly or what spoils I need to accumulate or how to use them etc?

Join the society of cooks to learn strategy with spoils. Otherwise the best way to learn how they work is to play some games with them.

Spoils are the cards
Every time you conquer a region , in the end of the turn, you are awarded a spoil(card)
You can hold maximum of 5 cards then you need to cash a set of cards(spoils)
Every card has a colour(red, green or blue)

Check the combinations of colours and game types here: http://www.conquerclub.com/public.php?m ... tructions3

Ok but how do I play them? I have a card that has a bracket around it because I own the property and I think I can claim four troops but I dont know how.

So are my options basically use them for the specific location they represent OR use them in certain colour combinations?

So there are two ways to use them, both resulting in extra troops?

Also that link is pretty unclear. What is a spoil set colour, how many cards do you need, how do you play them etc?

OK I got all information from the following discussion in livechat:

06:22:16 ‹DawudBeale› Hi everyone, can someone explain spoils to me?
06:22:30 ‹Razorvich› sure
06:22:50 ‹Razorvich› hang on a dec...will get a link
06:23:11 ‹DawudBeale› I already read the instructions but didnt find them very clear
06:23:27 ‹Razorvich› oh ok
06:24:23 ‹DawudBeale› If I have the property mentioned in the card, how do I play the card?
06:24:58 ‹Razorvich› go to your private chat tab mate i will "attempt" to answer all questions
06:25:15 ‹Bruceswar› here is a quick break down
06:25:24 ‹Bruceswar› escalating means the spoils go up each time
06:25:31 ‹Bruceswar› flat rate... the colors stay the same..
06:25:38 ‹Bruceswar› nukes...
06:25:46 ‹Bruceswar› means you nuke each region you cash
06:26:08 ‹Bruceswar› to cash a set you need 3 of the same color or 1 of each color
06:26:21 ‹DawudBeale› how many colours are there?
06:26:28 ‹Razorvich› 3
06:26:46 ‹DawudBeale› and what about if I own a region that is named in the card and it has a square bracket?
06:26:49 ‹Bruceswar› red = 4
06:26:54 ‹Bruceswar› blue = 8
06:26:57 ‹Bruceswar› green = 6
06:27:01 ‹Bruceswar› mixed = 10
06:27:04 ‹Bruceswar› in flat rate
06:27:18 ‹Bruceswar› if you own that region you cash
06:27:20 ‹Bruceswar› you get a plus 2
06:27:24 ‹Bruceswar› unless nukes
06:27:25 ‹Razorvich› you scream "WOOHOO"
06:27:29 ‹Bruceswar› then it goes to a nuetral one
06:27:32 ‹Bruceswar› lol
06:28:11 ‹DawudBeale› ok so owning that property you only get two troops?
06:28:19 ‹DawudBeale› how do you use your cards?
06:28:29 ‹Bruceswar› you get + 2 on that region
06:28:40 ‹Bruceswar› then whatever the set you cash is worth
06:28:48 ‹Bruceswar› once you get 3 of the same color or mixed
06:28:53 ‹Bruceswar› it will ask you if you want to cash
06:28:54 ‹Bruceswar› or wait
06:28:59 ‹DawudBeale› razorvich sorry I just realised you send me a private chat. sorry I am new to the interface
06:29:25 ‹DawudBeale› ok so why last move did it not ask me?
06:29:25 ‹Razorvich› all good mate....bruce is on a roll here
06:29:34 ‹Bruceswar› looking now
06:29:41 ‹DawudBeale› http://www.conquerclub.com/gam...2655201
06:29:58 ‹DawudBeale› I have alcer de sal and its in brackets but I never got asked about adding troops
06:30:25 ‹Bruceswar› you now have 3 cards
06:30:27 ‹Bruceswar› if you have a set
06:30:31 ‹Bruceswar› then you can cash
06:30:31 ‹Razorvich› happens automaticly
06:30:36 ‹Bruceswar› it will not give you the bonus
06:30:42 ‹Bruceswar› until you cash
06:30:42 ‹Razorvich› next turn mate
06:30:54 ‹DawudBeale› but I had the card last turn and it never asked me
06:31:13 ‹DawudBeale› hangon. Are you saying I can only get the two troops for that property if I use all 3 cards?
06:31:14 ‹Razorvich› you may not have had a set
06:31:23 ‹Razorvich› what cards do you have?
06:31:27 ‹Bruceswar› yes
06:31:30 ‹Bruceswar› that is correct
06:31:33 ‹DawudBeale› so its just an extra bonus basically
06:31:37 ‹Bruceswar› when you cash a set
06:31:40 ‹Bruceswar› that is when you get +2
06:31:43 ‹Bruceswar› yes indeed
06:31:45 ‹Bruceswar› that is correct
06:31:47 ‹Bruceswar› extra bonus
06:31:49 ‹DawudBeale› and at what point will it ask me?
06:31:57 ‹DawudBeale› after assaults, during or before?
06:32:02 ‹Razorvich› whenever you can cash
06:32:11 ‹Razorvich› at the start of your turn
06:32:19 ‹Bruceswar› before you delpoy men
06:32:26 ‹DawudBeale› ah ok

plus here is the information available in the rules

Spoils

Escalating sets are worth 4,6,8,10,12,15,20... (i.e. the first set of spoils turned in by any player is worth 4 troops, the second set is worth 6, etc.)

Flat Rate sets are worth 4 for red, 6 for green, 8 for blue and 10 for mixed.

Nuclear sets are not worth any troops. Instead, each region in the set is nuked to a single neutral troop (even if you own it!).

well, you need a set to trade. this either means 3 cards of the same colour, of 1 card of each of the 3 colours. rules are very different if you are in a flat rate, escalating or nuclear game.

True...Never noticed that. The instructions page should state how many cards consist of a set.

Once you have a set.

Either 3 red or 3 blue or 3 green or a red, a green and a blue.

On your next turn, a window will apear telling you that you can cash them by checking a box or wait by checking that box. You must do that before continuing with your turn. It shouldn't be too confusing when it happens and will probably make you understand how the cards work.

There are different rewards depending on game type and what spoils you have.

Yes nucular spoils work backwards and bomb each territory to a single army even if you own it. The advantage is if you do get a spoil to nuke a territory you own usually you can move the armies before you cash it. Sometimes you can't. I personally avoid nucular games. Other people love them.
