Death of casual?

Postby KraphtOne on Wed May 08, 2013 2:12 pm

So is anyone having any luck getting casual games filled since they adjusted it to put new games first?

I had a few 8 player games set up and later dropped them when I realized the change had occurred... Can't imagine the games ever filling up...

But was invited to a quads game yesterday and will probably drop it as well, because it too will likely never fill...

Basically there is no point in setting up casual games anymore unless you are playing games with few players, or want to simply reserve every seat in the game...

Pretty dumb, no?

I hope that's not the case. I set up and sent invites out for 44 games on random quads. Maybe I should send invites for the other team as well but it will take too long!

I've always used game finder to find games I want to join, so it does not impact me. I could imagine it being frustrating though.

I suppose it all depends on your priorities and what you consider to be the lesser of two evils.

My top priority is not having farming occur and preserve the scoreboard so I would rather have games start at the top of the list and move down. If they don't fill and I really want to play, I will just join a game that has one slot left. Either that or invite.

Thanks for your invites by the way, sorry I dropped them I want to reduce my game count!

create 1 game at a time and you'll mostly have 1 near the front.

create 50 and your attempts to farm on that map/settings are thwarted.

seems like a great update to me. bravo CC =D>

Create a quad or 8 player game without inviting people and let me know how long it takes to fill...

There are rules against farming... Let the rules handle it... This kills 8 player games...

Basically if someone wants to play an 8 player game with random players, they have to try to invite random players... Good luck getting any more gold medals greenoaks...

But I can see your response already. "I don't care about that stuff"

And I can tell by your game history that you DON'T care about this change because It doesn't affect you in the slightest...

So when I read you and forgotten's comments what I hear is "I never play any settings that this change would affect, so it will have zero impact on the games I play. However, I feel that although we have rules in place to prevent farming, we should keep this changed. That way, what is already impossible to do will become more impossible"

There hasn't been a farming case in months... But what will now happen is invite abuse... Because there are only so many high ranked players who would accept invites to certain game styles, and if you are medal hunting then you will have to invite nothing but low ranked players over and over and over...

But what I don't understand is if people actually want to play these games, why aren't they filling? Maybe the explanation for them filling before is that all these groups of 50 games(that's just insane btw) were plugging up the works at the top of the list and noobs just joined them out of either laziness or didn't know any better.

Honestly, I can't imagine NOT using GameFinder. I really can't fathom a reason not to do so.

I don't actually use gamefinder. I either pluck something off the list, create a game myself or just go without lol.

The really great thing about the list as it is now is there are so many more options, not to mention new faces at the top. It's really refreshing to not have to look at the same old people every time I look at the list. I think those people who create all those piles of games should join some of the games at the top of the list and see what happens. You might actually have fun! :D

Now to think about it, when games are pushed to the back and freebies like me have to wait days or a week, it is really annoying.

There is an easy fix for that, of course...

Yeah that's the thing with freemium, you have to pretty much take what you can get.

The biggest problem that I found with the old system was many of the new players to the site ended up joining games on the first page which had settings not ideally suited to new players.
This system makes it fairer for them as they are likely to find games that give them a much better chance, it also reduces farming by a considerable amount.

Completely agree and you totally nailed the two big reasons why I favor the new system.

So now that this change has been up for a few days, has anyone anything to say about it's effects?
I like fresh faces in the waiting games tbh and I feel that if I were a new player I would find it extremely more welcoming than the previous setup. Nice, basic games readily available to newcomers has got to be a good thing.

It's nice...certainly an improvement. But I still can't see me ever NOT using GameFinder. It just doesn't make sense.

Funny you say that. The decline rate of people is higher now than when the old system was in place. That tells me the game does not really matter, but the speed of the game does. All that this means is you are pissing off some long time vets of this game. These people just wanted to play a game. You will find very very few people who were farming for points. Terrible decision with this change.

Not to mention that they make all of these new 1000 unique defeats medals but there are only 14k active players and it is going to be hard to get certain game styles (assassin) started in the quantity required to get the medals.
