1) Playing Hive with Trench, you should aim for a few small bonuses at first, and then go big or go home. One consolidated empire is best.
Playing un-trenched, small bonuses are better, since that means there are more territories that need to be taken to lower the bonus. You don't have to stay consolidated, especially in Adjacent.
