Google Checkout and/or bitcoin payments

Postby Falmarri on Mon Mar 04, 2013 4:17 am

Concise description:
  • Make Google Checkout and/or bitcoins an option for payment for upgrading to premium membership

Specifics/Details:
  • Some people (me) refuse to use paypal. The current credit card process is fine, but it might be nice to be able to use google checkout as an alternative to paypal. Also, bitcoins might be a good option for people who don't want to use paypal or credit cards.

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • Will potentially get more upgraded memberships
  • Will promote google checkout and help it gain market share over paypal.
  • Allowing bitcoins will help stabilize the bitcoin market and help it gain legitimacy. Reddit recently allowed buying reddit gold with bitcoins.

I would imagine that for the owners bitcoins are too costly to convert to more useful currencies or use to purchase goods (e.g. black market drugs?).

Maybe it would be a great idea!

I find it unlikely that there are a significant number of people who would refuse to use Paypal but would use Google Checkout. But I suppose there's not a particularly good reason not to have that option, if the fees are similar or better.

And CC is too small of an entity to help stabilize the bitcoin market, and simultaneously is too vulnerable to fluctuations, in that smallness.

I agree that Google Checkout would be a good option. I'll investigate it a bit more to make sure there isn't any conflict (and what the fees are and such).

Good idea. I can't imagine that the fees aren't competitive with the credit card co.s

How about anonymity? I don't want my game name (which I use in a lot of places) to be linked to my real identity. I would upgrade if I didn't have to use a credit card. I tried the survey option once at another site. Never again. I'd rather solve puzzles.

I've been liking this idea more and more.

RE: implementation, here's some useful services that handle bitcoin payments:

If you sell things on your website (goods or services), you'll want to use a Bitcoin merchant solution to accept the Bitcoins (you can usually opt to have them converted to USD or other currencies automatically). If you sell things in a brick and mortar shop, customers can pay using their mobile phone app (for example Coinbase, Paytunia, Blockchain.info or BIPS.gif BIPS), so it's best if you can place a QR code near your register to which the customers can scan with their phone and pay (use http://ma.eatgold.com/accept to make a QR code sign).

BitPay Bitcoin payment processor with mobile checkout solution
BitUtils Provides HTML buttons to start accepting bitcoins instantly. No server side setup required.
Coinbase Offers payment buttons, checkout pages, shopping cart integration, and daily cash out to USD.
MTGOX Bitcoin payment processing
OKPAY Bitcoin payment processing for merchants
Paysius Allows merchants to easily and securely accept Bitcoin on their website and track payments
WalletBit Bitcoin payment processor with mobile checkout solution

PLEASE START TAKING BITCOIN FOR PREMIUM UPGRADE!

Postby amsterdamer on Tue Jul 09, 2013 2:07 pm

It would be amazing if users could pay with Bitcoins to upgrade accounts. It is very easy to do and will be beneficial for everyone. I know its easy for most to pay with a credit card but why not accept BTC? There has to be players on this site from all parts of the world and allowing payment in BTC would undoubtedly allow more people to upgrade. Also there is no fee involved as there is with credit card payments for CC. Tons of businesses and websites have started to accept the new digital currency and Conquer Club should join the train!! I know there are previous discussions about this but I think it is time to really make this happen. I will be the first to upgrade if you allow me to pay with my BTC! For anyone who has been living under a rock and had not heard of bitcoin yet.. Google it.

-I have created a poll above.. please vote if you care to.

Considering you are such a better player than I and have been around for so long I would love to hear why you think its a bad idea? Is there something I am missing? Would it allow players to cheat more easily in some way or are you just against bitcoin as a payment system all together?

Never heard of those, and don t see why i would ever need to use them, but if some people use them i see no issue there. I doubt enough people use them to even bother making this site accepy bitcoins.

Non govt controlled currencies are becoming increasingly accepted. The issue is with the fact that unlike a piece of paper or a coin, it is incredibly difficult to perceive virtual items to have value.

In a previous post someone mentioned Silk Road which was an underground virtual black market. The guy had his "money" seized for illegal activities. Obv people who are not engaging in criminal activity will not have their funds seized.

Would I recommend it for CC at this time? Prob not. The currency is still young, but stability is still an issue.

For the record I do have bit coins and a newer freicoin.

Vote yes for Bitcoin! Only downside is that Bitcoin price is not stable at all. Price radically fluctuates, been on a roller coaster ride from $30 a coin up to around $200+, down to $70 atm and been everywhere in between.

If there is that much of a fluctuation in the value, I don't know why the site would be interested. Let it stabilize, and then it might make sense.

I'm for bitcoins, but until CC accepts, I've found another way to pay: go to supermarket, but a Visa Gift Card, log on and pay.
