Nuclear Risk [Done]

Postby cramill on Tue Jun 19, 2007 11:46 am

This is a suggestion for a new game type. I don't know if this has been suggested before but I just heard of a game variation called Nuclear Risk. In this version the cards aren't used to be cashed in for armies, but to nuke an opponent's country, where they loose all of their armies in that country. This would also work well if there were some wild cards in the deck (i think that wild cards is on the to-do-list).

I've never played this way before so I don't know exactly the limitations on these new rules. For example: I'm not sure if you could choose if you want to trade them in for armies or use them to bomb someone, but this would be an interesting new variation to the game.

when u say lose all their armies does that mean the territory is then owned by no one? or do they just go down to one? also dosent it also kinda make going for continents pointless as someone could always nuke ur borders and stroll right through to take ur bonus from u, there just my thoughts anyway, i think it sounds cool just needs a bit of detail added.

Like i said, i just heard the idea but I don't know all the details, but the details could be discussed and set in stone later.

My two cents,

A nuke would probably be good for attacking a territory but not a nation (that's too much land area for any bomb, except maybe anti-matter? ... No stick to the subject).

I think it would be a good idea but it would require a lot of time to get the bombs (for example you would require many cards instead of one wild card many cards, like a set of nuclear cards mixed in with the regular ones) and when you can finally use it you could bomb a territory, killing the guys on it, and the ambient radiation or fallout would render the territory unusable and hazardous to armies (ex: passing through that land would cost you two armies).

I have played nuclear risk with some friends on the board game. The rules we use are that you can use a card to nuke the country on the card but you lose your go so you may not deploy armies or get a card that turn. Cards can also be cashed as normal for extra armies. The country become neutral and any one may move in for free. However each turn that armies are stationed in that country you lose half of them due to radiation (rounded down). It makes for some very interesting play. I personally would enjoy playing it every now and then.

Nukes

Postby Iainarm on Thu Jun 21, 2007 9:06 pm

I think it would be good, but maybe with a rule so if your opponent has all of a continent, you can't nuke any of the territorries in that continent. That would help a lot, cause it would really suck if they could just wipe them all out without having to go through all your defenses...

No, it would just mean different gameplay - you would have to stagger your armies more.

I love this idea but I think it was either rejected or forgotten about before - I can't understand why...

To prevent abuse of nuclear weapons it could be made so that a Nuke can only be launched from a territory with a certain number of armies on it (for example you could need a minimum of 5 armies to deploy a nuke, this is just cause a nuke is a very powerful weapon and not easy to use). And the "armed territory" could only attack territories next to it. For example, you wouldn't be able to launch an attack the the center of your enemies largest Nation and disrupt his income, you only be able to attack a border that you share with him.

I like this idea and I would like other peoples suggestions or ideas on the subject.

How about a simpler implementation of Nuclear Cards - without radation or wild cards.

You cash in a set, all 3 regions get reduced to 1 neutral, friend and foe alike.

It would definitely involve new tactics...

Does this bump of a 2 year old thread mean we are getting this implemented? Or am I putting the proverbial cart before the horse?

I'd play it. Sounds like fun.

So I would gather that if you own a territory, then it doesn't get nuked? or does it? Of course there would be no sense to playing nuke with cards then. Just a crazy thought I know but some will think that the territory you own would also get nuked.

I think it should nuke yours as well.

You will know in advance which cards you have so you can evacuate beforehand!

well, except if you have two pair and your fifth card happens to be the card you have your big stack on :P
wow, I would definitely want to play this game :P

imagine freestyle speed. a big opponent is about to move into a territory you can cash in as a card.
the thrill it would give to crush his whole stack in a mere second, in exactly the right second :P

lack, fix it

so in a mather of fact this means that if you got a stack with all your troops... like 10000 troops, and you get a card on it and cash it, it still gets down to 1 grey and your simply 60 foot down under in the game?

yup , thats the gist of it, the idea is it'll create a new type of game play involving no stacks, and it's abit of luck but imagine this...
small map , the game is crazy ever changing, you never know whats gonna happen.
large maps, the game gets more complicated so smart players can win more games.

here's my guess what will happen...
to start with all player will join small map nuclears then only lower ranks
the opposite is true with large maps, this is because some player will speacialise in these games.
and finally Top rank player will benifit because this extra option further makes the game more complicated helping the more well educated/exsprienced risk player.

Ps: Love the add Lack
