I think the map looks great.
I'm waiting for it to go live now.
No more name changes please. :D
I'm Portuguese but I worked in Spain for a couple of months (in Girona), doing a banking application for "Caja de Girona". As such I'm more than aware of all the language questions.
We could go on debating forever if Bad Speller should use Portuguese and Spanish only or all the other dialects.
Since that discussion is a never ending one, I would either put a Poll or just go with the Map Creator decision.

A few sugestions

Postby zetuga on Wed Mar 28, 2007 7:27 pm

Please change "Tras-os-montes" to "Ribatejo" wich means something like "upper Tagus River", it is more adequate because it includes all the north of the country. In fact it's the biggest river of the Peninsula and a reference wich splits the North and the South of Portugal. And, you see, Tras-os-montes is "only" the northeastern region, big in size, but the second least populated.

Please consider changing "Viseu" to "Coimbra" although they are close to each other, the former is far bigger and important, in fact its known as the third biggest city of Portugal.

Hope you understand my english, it may sound rude, because i barely speak it.

These are the recommendations from someone who doesn't live in none of the towns or regions mentioned. I'm just trying to help.

And congratulations for this map. It's lovely.

3 Things:

1 - I love the map so far

2 - Stick with Spanish and Portuguese for the regions

3 - Maybe change the font of the Text? (ie: Iberia) Perhaps something not in italics...

Otherwise, cool stuff, can't wait to play!

Cheers

IMAO

Postby MadRMax on Tue Apr 10, 2007 8:49 am

The river between Lisboa and Setubal should go all the way to spain(Is born IN Spain) 3 bridge's(if i'm not mistaken) exits over this river(In Portugal) 2 should be over this river or at least 1(most important) Setubal/Lisboa(Bridge 25 April) and anouther 1 Setubal/Leiria

If you only have 2 reagions in Portugal you should call them North Portugal and South Portugal that covers every regions there are in portugal........it's not rigth(1ce again IMAO) to call it Alentejo becouse you'l be forgeting "Allgarve" and it's not right to call it Tras os Montes or Ribatejo becouse there are smoler regions of Portugal whith that name also!!

About Spain hy dont no mutch but i can do some reserch and hellp you whith that 2!!

Sea and keep UP THE GOOD WORK......

Your suggestions are noted. Im not sure yet if I will implement them or not.

Lately its been hard for me to find the time to work on this map. Hectic life + learning a new drawing program. I hope to get an update before the end of the month.

It's becoming more and more apparent to me that I will not have any time to work on this map so I'm putting it on vacation until July

What about using the terms of the civilizations prior to Roman Empire, like "Celtes, Celtes-Iberos, Lusitanos, Godos, Visigodos..."

This is a simple geographic map. It is July, I'm working on the map, I'm just looking for an image/compass to put at the bottom left corner of the map then I'll start up this thread again.

Well, back to work on this map!!!

Image

- Moved sig to bottom left corner
- added a simple faded compass at the top right
- added a faded spanish piece of eight beside it (i dont think a picture of a coin and be copyright, but i'll check later)
- minor fiddling all over the map

things to possibly do
- change mountains

about the language discussion that happened a few months ago, I'm using Portuguese and Spanish languages only, using regional languages would just cause to many languages.

As with the continent names for Portugal, i could keep them as they are...or be more proper and refer to them as Portuguesa Norte and Portuguesa Sul (north and south Portugal, might have to verify spelling though).

Legend looks a bit dull, could be hard to read... could you try brightening it up or doing similarly amazing things to possibly improve it?

Hm, I think the legend could use a spruce. Maybe a faded or blurred background of the land and water behind it, so the names stand out? Or maybe go with some sort of swooping puddle slate behind it? Whatever makes the names easier to read...:)

And I'd maybe consider making the North and the coin slightly lighter, just so you can see they are actually there.

I cant really put a blur or fade behind the legend, heres where the limitations of my drawing program come in, but i'll think of something creative (keep in mind this is the small map, and i can read it fine, maybe your monitor is set to a higher resolution or somthing)

I'll lighten the north symbol and coin.

I've changed the coin, made it more visible as well as the North sign

Tried to get creative with legend, tell me if i've succeeded.

(edit) also renamed tras os montes to ribajeto as per a previous suggestion.
