I'm putting a sign-up deadline of Wednesday, Sept. 3 for this tournament, so if we don't get the full 72 teams, I'll make some alterations and get us under way along with the start of the real college football season. But we will need at least 30 teams for me to put this tournament in motion.
Here's one for college football fans, as we will be playing out the 2014 FCS (I-AA) football season.
Good luck all...football is back!!!
This is a 1 vs. 1 singles tournament that will follow the NFL football season. 72 players…we have four 10-team leagues and four 8-team leagues. Tournament is open to freebies and premium players, I just ask that freebies keep pace with play…several maps each week.
All games are SEQUENTIAL…other than that all settings are accepted…and all maps are in play. A 30-round cap will be in place for all maps.
Games are scored based on a five-map showdown.
First quarter — home-field settings chosen by player
*Second quarter — a Geographic map with some relation to the school.
*Third quarter — a Geographic map with some relation to the school.
Fourth quarter — home-field settings chosen by player
*Special teams — random map
* These maps will be escalating, chained, sunny
A scoring formula (see below) will reward players for quick victories. Note: the special teams map has its own scoring system.
Total points will be used to determine the official winner — it will be possible for a team to win just 2 of the 5 maps and still come out in front. Although winning 3 of 5 maps will often land you a victory.
• In the case of overtime...each team will face off on the “First Quarter” map.
(Win in 7 or less rounds for a winning TD…win in 8+ rounds to get a winning FG)
The season will include 12 regular season games for each school. Teams in the bigger (10-team) leagues will get 9 league games and 3 nonleague showdowns, while teams in the smaller groups (8-team) will get 7 league games and 5 nonleague games.
The winners of each league gain an automatic berth into the 12-team playoff bracket. The remaining eight spots will be awarded by a selection committee based on performance during the season. The top four seeds will earn a first-round bye.
A top-10 ranking will be published each week of the season.
The top eight teams (not necessarily all of the league winners) will earn a first-round bye in the playoffs.
Portland State 14 7 0 9 — 30
Montanta State 3 3 6 7 — 19
• PSU wins in 6 rounds
• PSU wins in 13 rounds
• Montana St. wins in 11 rounds
• Montana St. wins in 17 rounds
• PSU FG
*PSU wins special teams map in 13 rounds, so gets 1 FG (credited in the 4th Q).
• A scoreboard section will update scores throughout each week, while standings will be updated at the end of each week.
When signing up be sure to include whether you want a (difficult, moderate or easy) schedule and I will do my best to accomodate that when making the nonleague matchups. An easy schedule will give you a better chance to pile up wins, while a difficult schedule gives you the chance to bolster your national ranking.
Check the list below for an open team. Be sure to include you settings for each player (map, cards, forts, fog, trench?)
Good luck and let’s have some fun…and yes, Go Portland State!!!
