Are you really just trying it without shadows so you can get out of the tedious centralizing? ;)
--Andy

No. Not neccecarily. I just had an epiphny regarding the shadows necessity.
I agree that the shadows give it a more proffessional look, but one must also consider that the map is way less ...

You should consider making an alternate Wolrd 2.0 where the inevitable oill-crisis and global warming are accounted for.
Try removing lowland areas such as Bangladesh, Holland, Oceania and Florida as well.

A couple of years ago I came across a re-written Bill Of Rights.
It was along the lines of "you have the right to use common sense", "You have the right to take responability for your own actions" and " You have the right to refuse looking/reading/viewing things offensive to you".

Does anyone ...

I just had a wacky and perhaps useless idea for a map-

create the map like normal but add tons more army shadows than actually needed and place fake numbers on them, all 3's. Then when you're playing the game it would be very difficult to tell who actually owned which territories- it would almost ...

Just for the heck of it. There's a thread regarding the army shadows and I thought I'd do som experimentation:

Good question. Are the army shadows really compulsory?
I've been toying with the idea since my Senate Map in a bit cluttered/crowded with the shadows.

Aside from troubles I've been having trying to center the numbers on them, I wonder if they are needed at all on some maps?

hmmm....

Cut down the number of departments(countries) and make it two corporations instead. It'll be more true to the concept of a corporate takeover.
Or why not one big corporation and several Mom-and-Pop businesses.
(now that I think about it, that's the way the king of the hill map could have gone)

Sorry, those one's mentioned looked to based of a different point horizontally.

What I did to get my coodinates was make a circle the same size as my army shadows with a 1 pixel dot in the middle. I just moved this dot around the map over each shadow and recorded what coordinate the pixel was at ...

Too: High, low, left or right?
The whole process i empirical so if you can pinpoint the errors would help.
I dont have any point to base things off, I just try to jog the coordinate values up or down one step at a time trying to get all numbers in the same position within their shadows.

Here's a tip:
Raise the dpi to 600 and then resize it to fit the large mapwidth of 800px.
THEN start editing the map.
Trust me, this will save you time. You will have better control over the final look of things if you work with the 800px from the get-go.
