Re: Antarctica <v10>

My suggestion is set up similar to Oasis, but I do not believe the gameplay would be at all similar. In Oasis, there are lots of territories that do not decay so people stick to those until they are ready to attack the objective. Also, the +1 per 1 makes it very advantageous to conquer large amounts ...

Re: Antarctica <v10>

So one thing I keep coming back to with this map (which has beautiful graphics btw) is "what is the goal?" To me, its all about the south pole... kinda like climbing Mt Everest, this should be a real struggle to get to (and hold) the south pole. I think the gameplay should really focus on this ...

Re: The King's Court [GP,GX,XML,BETA]

I'm not crazy about the Bishop bombarding some villages. First, it will take a few lines to explain, and I'm not sure there is room. More importantly, the role villages play right now is as a small bonus that encourages expansion, and the extra threat of bombardment would make them much weaker. The ...

Re: Research & Conquer (Version 5 in P1 & P47)

The one thing that I think we should make sure of is that at no time is a foreign homeland worth more than your original homeland.
I agree.

One possible way of doing this is to make homelands worth 4 (or 1 for every 2) and foreign homelands worth 2 (or 1 for every 4). Then National Pride and ...

Won't you then have the trouble of making it easier/harder to get card, which depending on the game type can be a big advantage/disadvantage?

Re: Research & Conquer (Version 5 in P1 & P47)

You are right, we need to have a full discussion about homeland bonuses. Can we start that now or should we wait until we clear up some other things. The problem is that they are all tied together because of space constrictions.

Re: Antarctica <v8> Back in business

Quick question. I imagine everyone starts with one sector, do all the "regular" territories start as neutral, or do they get divided up? I usually like conquest style maps, but I am not a fan of how close the starting positions are (assuming your answer is the former), and I am very worried about ...

Re: Philadelphia - draft updated 12/31 pg 5

Cool, I like the inset. Wondering if University City could be connected to Rittenhouse Square or Art Museum, or if you think that would throw the gameplay off too much? The bridges on Walnut st, Chestnut st, Market st and JFK very heavily used. It also seems a bit strange for the inset (the focal ...

Re: Philadelphia - draft updated 12/9 pg 4 - POLL

I really like your idea of having an inset of Center City. There is a lot in there and I look forward to seeing how the gameplay shakes out, with or without the underdog bonus.

Re: Research & Conquer (Version 5 in P1 & P47)

There are also a few other things regarding the legend/tech explanations, some of which might free up some space.

1) The biggest thing I see is the different words that are used that mean you get a bonus: "reinforcements," "army," and "bonus" are all used interchangeably. To avoid confusion, a ...

Re: Final Call for the first four techs

I know I just posted some comments on this, but that was before I realized this was ready to be finalized. I do not agree with this change (making TSFs much more powerful while increasing the neutral cost accordingly), so let me try to explain.

In my opinion, the early game is the time when ...

Re: Final Call for the first four techs

Yes. 50 is maybe too much because it even goes beyond the 6 turn limit. But 40 is maybe too small for a permanent bonus that will reduce the research time for all the remaining techs. So 45 seems like the sweet spot.

I agree with TSF set at +8 autodeploy and 45 neutral as far as the bonus/neutral ...

Re: Research & Conquer (Version 5 in P1 & P47)

Thanks for the long-awaited stamp, hopefully the Graphics one won't take as long to get.

As for gameplay twists and turns, Oliver is referencing the fact that you can't prevent Doomsday from doing its full effect of bombarding everything. Open Conscription is currently coded to supersede Secret ...

Re: Research & Conquer (Version 5 in P1 & P47)

The above post notwithstanding, I have a few parting thoughts-

The Doomsday Device I think is a very good idea, but ultimately I don't like it being attackable without going through a basic tech first. Along those lines...
How about attaching Zepplin Strikes as a Basic and Doomsday Device as an ...

Re: Final Call for the first four techs

One comment that I was going to save until later is that the TSF's and the doomsday device are not really advanced techs because there are no "basic" versions of them. The TSF's should probably be located directly under the Labs, since they are more of a spring board to other techs than a tech ...

Re: Final Call for the first four techs

Hi all, I have been on vacation the last few days and will be until the new year. I am about 2 or 3 pages behind on the conversation, and I likely won't be able to fully catch up until I get home. That being said, when I get a chance (like now) I will try to read a few posts and make a few short ...

Re: Research & Conquer (Version 5 in P1 & P47)

Thanks Tanarri for the explanation. I understand the rationale behind using this method to calculate neutral counts, however I think it leads to some results that won't make sense for how the gameplay will unfold. For example, I would argue that the more important "turn" quantity is how many turns ...

First, Bravo with the new draft. I really like the colors you have added to the tech tree. One comment that I was going to save until later is that the TSF's and the doomsday device are not really advanced techs because there are no "basic" versions of them. The TSF's should probably be located ...

Re: Research & Conquer (Version 4 in P1 & P45)

I agree with the concept of different starting positions favoring different strategies, as long as one starting position does not give a clear advantage over another. I think you have balanced open territories and mines very well. However, most games on this map will end up with players devoting ...

Re: Research & Conquer (Version 4 in P1 & P45)

Another thing I just noticed. The real power of the Zeppelins is that they can break homelands because every homeland has one mine in it. For me, this is what makes them so cool right now (and worthy of 50 neutral). However, in some homelands, the mine is on the border of the homeland and in some ...

Sure.

Change "Holding an entire foreign homeland: +2" to "Holding an entire ...

Re: Research & Conquer (Version 4 in P1 & P45)

i'm rather puzzled about the propaganda tech +2 additional bonus for holding a foreign homeland . do u mean +2 additional bonus for each foreign homeland region ? if it's only +2 extra for holding all 6 flags of a foreign homeland, then i cannot see how to use this tech to advantage.

Re: Research & Conquer (Version 4 in P1 & P45)

Fitst, bravo TaCktiX! very nice! =D> =D> =D>

Here are some quick hit thoughts:

The doomsday +75/200 I think is dependent on the final values of the other techs.

The conscription techs use the phrase "regions" and the legend (when talking about the doomsday device) revers to "land regions". I ...
