Cities

Proposal: Add a variant, to be known as Cities, to the CC start your own game page.

When a player clicks on the Cities box, one (1) territory on each continent, will be designated as a City. This will be done randomly… with each new game. By doing so, it will prevent games from becoming stale and ...

I would change the bonus to....

SW = 5
SE = 4

Leave everything else... as it currently stands.

Of course, opinions are like anal cavities... everybody has one

No sweat, let's keep this topic hot.

As pointed out... this is the only problem I see with your suggestion:

one thing you have to be carefull of is not having a situation where:
country 1 has it's embassy in country 2
country 2 has it's embassy in country 1

I like how it forces a player to be ...

Actually, we are on different wave-lengths.

I'm talking about a variant that designates one (1) territory, in each continent, as a City.

This City territory has the ability to grant additional armies... to the player that controls it.

A player does not have to control the Continent... to receive ...

My only problem is with the terminology... I really do not like using the word embassies .

It just does not sound right and feel right.

I would prefer almost anything else... Cities, Towns, Capitals, Seats of Power, Thrones, Army Headquarters (AHQ), etc.

All these terms, plus many more, where ...

And we need get free from the bottleneck.

I would think that the use of ports... would help break-up the bottleneck.

I think five ports should be added ... this brings us up to 36 territories.

Ports are only connected to other adjacent ports... movement/attacking is no different than from ...

Another version of this is called... Cities.

Several territories are designated as Cities... with additional armies going to the controlling player.

It started as a variant for the boardgame... back in the 60's.

We used hotels, from Monoply, to represent the cities.

Hue was not a port...in the traditional sense.

It was an in-land city, connected to the South China Sea... by the Perfume River.

Cargo ships unloaded at the mouth of the river, while at sea, on to WW2-era landing craft and sampans.

The materials then moved up-river to Hue.

Tourane/DaNang had ...

Yeah I was going to do an update to my indochina map with sea ports that would work similarly,

A very good idea for the Indochina map.

Intra-coastal shipping was used for much of the strategic movement.

This means that Tourane (DaNang) and Haiphong (Hanoi's port) need to be added as new ...

I'm still searching for a good map that shows the mountains.

I can see where some players may wish to hot-seat it... I hope you get it.

Two or three game-turns a day... is more suited for my type of play.

Plus, I figured that the programming would be a lot easier for 24, 12, 8 hour time limits... than fast play.

IMO, this map has potential as a Triples game.

One team is the "gov't" and the other is the "Viet Minh" :)

I looked at a couple of strategic VietNam game-maps... that I own.

Both use a combination of mountains and rivers to regulate movement.

The Mekong and several other rivers... are ...

OK, that is how we run FtF games... pre-made and/or secret alliances are considered a no-no, too.

Most of my Risk back-ground is with the board-game version.

In FtF encounters, in-game deals were considered a natural part of play.

Ganging up on the top-dog... was just a fact-of-life :D

Why is it considered cheating in online versions?

I'm not advocating a pro or con stance on the topic ...
